All this talk about the expansion of the universe,that it is speeding up,that it is flat & the expansion is being caused by dark energy/matter, to me seems to be clutching at straws.
Assuming the big bang occurred , if it was like any normal explosion the resulting matter should be thrown out in all directions i.e. spherically and with differing force & to different distances.If a reasonable amount of matter remained in close then gravity would start to pull this matter back in reasonably quickly (say half a million years,the same age as the background radiation) The background radiation may be caused by matter re-entering the big bang black hole.
I believe the universe is shrinking & the apparent speeding up is caused by acceleration due to gravity. Galaxies that were closer in than us would have started to accelerate earlier & be faster than us and appear to be accelerating away.Any galaxies further out than us would appear to be accelerating away from us when we,in fact would be accelerating at a faster rate and be accelerating away from them. All the supposedly missing matter is just not visible to us probably because of a very,very big black hole in the centre of the universe & the radiation it is causing.

So far as you can say the universe has a centre, it's where the observer is.

That isn't what dark matter is. Dark matter is the additional mass required in order to explain anomalous galactic rotation curves. It has nothing to do with what is at the "center" of the universe (which probably isn't even a meaningful concept, at least in three dimensions of space).

There have been some large-scale simulations of the development of the universe.
They needed to include Dark Matter and Dark Energy in order to produce something like what we see today.

Regardless of anything else, this would only work if you were looking directly at or away from the "center". Any galaxy the same distance from this hypothetical center as we are would be part of a constricting sphere and as we both converge toward the center we would measure such a galaxy as approaching us. In other words, you would not measure distant galaxies all receding from us no matter what direction you were looking in.
