It's a long shot from Olaf Stapeldon's magnificent vision in 'last and first men'.

It' a lot more like that Swedish expression. 'Up as a sun and down as a pancake', deflated.

Let's see if I will be found correct. Two decades and you will know, even if I'm gone. I would like to find out of course but you can't stop aging. It's my final prediction and the most serious, ignoring the possibility of none of us seeing it. We have to get out of 2022 first, without a nuclear war.

If intelligence has a purpose you failed it.

And that is the purpose of the game. Your game of inequality in a nutshell.

Personally I think that the purpose IPCC came to serve was delaying it, not by those scientists involved in it, but by other interests.

They and all other governmental institutions in the end will serve the same purpose, keeping the status quo and business as usual.

We were never any better than the basest animals here, and in some mean we were a lot worse. And we're taking a whole earth with us.

I would like to be more positive about it all. but it's impossible. I would be lying.

" Those not well-versed in climate change science tend to venerate the IPCC as a beacon of fact and authenticity. Without knowing the mandate, process, power relations, knowledge biases and inconsistencies, many hold up the IPCC as an untouchable icon. They do not see the bureaucracy and strong personalities shaping the reports as much as the science. "

I really think we're going extinct today. And I need to disconnect my emotions writing it, just using logic.

It creates a question. Who becomes the strongest defenders of this game? The one getting suspended, or the ones still staying, agreeing but silent?

Take a guess.

You are very transparent, if you know how to look.

" Bolsonaro’s bill “is not appropriate for its intended purpose,” Ibram said in a statement issued days later, adding that regulation of mining in Indigenous territories “needs to be widely debated by the Brazilian society, especially by the Indigenous peoples, respecting their constitutional rights, and by the Brazilian Congress.” "

Leaving it open for exploiting, as long as those Indigenous territories agree. Not about the rain forest at all, or global warming.

You could call it 'saving face', somewhat like HSBC suspending people stating what they consider obvious.

Funny in one way, true in another.

" Military authorities say they’re confident they can keep the second-oldest Marine Corps base intact, for now, through small-scale changes to existing infrastructure projects.

Maj. Marc Blair, Parris Island’s environmental director, describes this strategy as “the art of the small,” a phrase he attributes to the base’s commanding general, Brig. Gen. Julie Nethercot. In practice, it means such things as raising a culvert that needs to be repaired anyway, limiting development in low-lying areas and adding floodproofing measures to firing range upgrades. "

Funny because it's a constantly losing battle, true because that will be the way we act.

The game defending its views

" HSBC suspends head of responsible investing who called climate warnings ‘shrill’ "

It's not that they don't agree, it just has to look convincing to you. Like a magical trick.

Worst case scenarios

" The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) has said the global number of forcibly displaced people has passed 100 million for the first time, describing it as a “staggering milestone”.

The UN high commissioner for refugees, Filippo Grandi, said the grim new statistic should act as a wake-up call for the international community and that more action is needed internationally to address the root causes of forced displacement around the world. "

It will get worse.

Well, so do I :)

But that 'Ring' seems multifaceted to me. And observer dependent.

It's weird isn't it? You can't let go of your bias. We see the same phenomena in how people look at lights duality, some defining it as a wave universe, others as a 'photonic' universe, and then there is that third variant, a 'field'. You want 'one ring to rule them all' as Tolkien put it.
