Title: ARE THERE ANY SCIENCE EVENTS OUT THERE AIMED MOSTLY AT ADULTS???
Post by: Beaker on 13/10/2009 01:22:10
Hi guys.  [:)]

Can anyone tell me if there is any Science Festivals/Events/Weeks out there that are aimed at an adult audience?

Since listening to this show I have seriously got into Science of all kinds and I would love to get out there and meet people from the world of Science with maybe a view to a career change, but mostly to chat, listen and learn.... [;)]

I really would love to learn more and was not really aware that Science weeks existed until I listened to the NS Podcasts.

Is there a calendar online somewhere of the next 12 months of Sciences Festivals?
Maybe someone would be kind enough to recommend something for me.

I live near Stansted Airport, 30 mins from Cambridge.

Many thanks  [:)]

Often a good way to start is by joining an astronomy club. Or something similar. Go to your local science based museum and start talking to the poeple there, ask them about different clubs etc that you can join.

Take a look at Spoonfed http://www.spoonfed.co.uk/london/whats-on/exhibitions-1429/science-3304/ (http://www.spoonfed.co.uk/london/whats-on/exhibitions-1429/science-3304/)
or http://www.exhibitions.co.uk/ (http://www.exhibitions.co.uk/)

The Royal Society holds a Summer Science exhibition in June and Cambridge University has a science festival in March 2010.

Its also a good idea to keep tabs on the Science Museum in London http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk (http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk) and the National Space centre in Leicester http://www.spacecentre.co.uk/Page.aspx/1/Home/ (http://www.spacecentre.co.uk/Page.aspx/1/Home/)

It's also worth looking for Cafe Scientifique events near you (there's one in Cambridge tomorrow night - but this may be a bit short notice!).  These tend to be evening events in pubs or cafes, and so are centred around an adult audience.

National Pathology week is coming up soon too, they'll have events for adults - http://www.nationalpathologyweek.org/
