I honestly don't think it is a good idea to put soil into a rocket.
Whereas, potassium nitrate you can get from just about anywhere.

I doubt you have the resources to extract potassium nitrate from soil. Why would you when you can buy it!

Ah yes, that could work, although you probably won't get a high yeild at all, not very pure either. I still think you should buy it.

I think that means that you need to mix potassium carbonate from charcoal with soil that has a high nitrogen content.
You can get soil with a high nitrogen content by peeing in dirt. In fact, i think that's how they used to get KNO3 to make black powder a long time ago.

As others have suggested, though, you should just buy some potassium nitrate. It is cheap and plentiful. You can order it on the internet or, in some cases, you can buy it from places that sell meat - KNO3 is often used as a meat preservative.

Nitrates are produced in soil by the actions of some sorts of bacteria on things like urine which contain a lot of nitrogen.
Many years ago this was used as the way to make potassium nitrate for gunpowder.
Of course you also need something to supply the potassium.
The ash left behind when you burn wood contains quite a lot of potassium carbonate- known as potash.
The reaction of the nitrate in the soil with potash gives potassium nitrate.
You can leach that out of the mixture of soil and ashes and dry it out. It's not very pure but you can clean it up by recystalisation.
I don't know of anyone who has actually done this- it doesn't seem like a very nice job.

Your 'bp' is going to be about 70%-75% potassium nitrate, you need to have A LOT of it. I doubt that any other method is going to get you enough.

If you can't buy it then I think you are better off not trying; there's more to like than gunpowder and you are likely to get into major trouble if you start blowing things up.
It makes me nervous when people who obviously don't have a clue about it are trying to make explosives.
