Title: shaking legs
Post by: Quantumcat on 31/03/2004 15:12:41
Why do your legs shake/vibrate after going down lots and lots and lots of stairs?

Am I dead? Am I alive? I'm both!

it could be that your muscles stared contracting to absorb the shock that your leg took on each step and just haven't stopped yet.  I would more expect the to satrs shaking after going UP a bunch of stairs due to fatigue.

This reminds me.  Has anyone here ever heard of, or even better yet know that they have "restless legs syndrome"?  I had never heard of it until I moved to the city i live in now and passed a place called the institue for resless legs syndrome.  I've since done some reading on it (I'll try to find a link to put on here) and Now I'm trying to figure out if I have it or not (how typical right?)
Anyways I'd be interested to hear what people have to say about this.

I've heard of people taking folic acid and B complex for it.

Oh man they make everything into syndromes these days. I do have times where my legs, thighs in particular, get very restless and I feel like I need to stretch them or go for a run or something. Seems a bit silly almost to make it into a syndrome.

Unless there are people who suffer from it constantly or something cos that would be really annoying.

yeah, it sounds like the people who are diagnosed with it have very severe symptms that make their legs feel numb or even painful at times, and it keeps them from sleeping, etc.  I'm just trying to figure out if there are lesser forms of the disorder, becaus ewhat i experience is definately NOT that severe.

I'm bringing this back to the top for another round of analysis because we didn't get to the bottom of it...

I've found that going down stairs is every bit as taxing on the muscles as going up, though it affects different muscles.  If you go down lots of stairs, you may be feeling the effects of fatigue on those muscles.  This definitely results in shaking or quivering.

what i think is that it is a bit disbalance in the calcium level in your leg muscles or may be it is the disbalance in the action potential of your body that your legs is shivering and i think that it is kind of different than mysthenia gravis.

I think the shakiness is really muscle fatigue, such as when you're lifting weights and really put a max load on your muscles.
The restless legs syndrome is an actual neurological syndrome of paraesthesia or dysesthesia of the legs.  These people experience such unpleasant sensations in their legs that they're compelled to move them to relieve the sensation.  It has varying degrees of severity, but with some, they're unable to sleep at night.

well ur legs are shivering just because you are taking more calcium and you action potential is disbalance i will recommend you to ask your physician to tell you proper diet chart and just dont take too much salts or spicy foods for about 2-3 months and it will be ok if it is acute for chronic you have to consult your doctor.

Thanks Gazi....would that also explain why I get muscular twitches too, in the PECS, legs and sometimes the eye muscles ?

People on the autistic spectrum get restless legs; this is put down to nervous energy.

muscular twitches are due to more lactic acid formation and if it cant be detoxified it cause the muscle twitches it is also due to tetanization and the eye muscle distraction is something else NEILEP so dont confuse quantumcat.
