The decriminalisation of drugs would not eliminate the crime committed by the illicit trade,
One wonders what sort of idiot (apart from Donald Trump) offers an oxymoron as policy. Apparently, it's our own beloved government.
So there were around 3000 "drug-related" deaths in the UK last year. Who cares? Obviously not the users themselves. It may be tough on their loved ones but it's clear that love was not reciprocated, and suicide by any other means is not illegal. Obviously not HM government, which raised massive revenue from the 79,000 people who died from tobacco-induced disease, so why not legalise all drugs and tax them? The savings in police effort alone would be worth it. The UK police budget is around £15,000,000,000 per year. Saving just 1% of that would allow your friendly neighborhood copper to do something useful instead, or maybe build a few schools and hospitals.
The problem is The UK has overtaken France [2014] to become the fifth largest economy in the world after the money made from prostitution and drugs was counted in the GDP figure for the first time.
and no politician is going to risk being overtaken by France.

In my opinion, selling illicit drugs should be illegal but buying them (with no intention of selling them) and using them shouldn't be illegal. This way the people who profit off of drug abuse will get punished but the people who are addicted and suffering can get the help they need and won't be imprisoned for being addicted and not be able to fight the addiction. People who are addicted should go into hospitals, not jails.
