Sticker on your wrist or back of your ear for sea sickness!!
« on: 17/05/2007 21:09:26 »
Some people put a sticker on, with a metal thing on it, on their wrists or behind their ears when they go on a boat or something, to stop sea sickness.

How does it help them from becoming sick?

I would guess, that they are medicated patches. Like those you can wear to stop smoking, and are actually "patches" not stickers. Unless they have pirate pictures on, then they are stickers! [::)]

No.. Well, they have nothing chemical in them. They just have a metal spike in them, which you stick onto you, with the metal point facing the skin.

Sounds to me like you feel so uncomfortable with the metal spike sticking into your flesh that you forget that you are meant to be feeling seasick [:)]

Never personally having had a predisposition to seasickness, I cannot say I have ever had cause to explore the means of averting it.

I don't get sea sick neither. But the metal point is really err, blunt, so it doesnt hurt, unless you press it firmly with your finger.

I think behind the ear and the wrist bit, is linked to your brain or something, which eases the nerves or.. I don't know..

I think if you are talking about the patches that have a type of metal spike on them they use acupressure technology to eliminate the feelings of nausea associated with motion sickness. This technology is based on the fact that if the right degree of pressure is applied to the right points of the body the transmission of nausea is blocked before it can be registered by the brain – thus eliminating the feelings of nausea before they start. However there are also patches that use drugs to help alleviate nausea. I think lol

Personally, i doubt they are accupuncture stickers. How would joe public know the correct pressure point to stick his sticker to? Do you have a brand name, Seany?

I'm not sure, but they come in a little packet with little instructions which tell you where you have to place them..

I suffer from travel sickness and nausea associated with migraine headaches. I've got soem pressure point wrist bands and I do find them effective. I don't know how they work - and was pretty sceptical about them to begin with. Each elastic wristband has a small plastic ball which presses into the wrist.
