Title: The Theory Of Everything
Post by: DoctorBeaver on 17/12/2005 06:29:00
I've sussed it! I call it the Benign Lateral eXpansion theory, or BLX for short.
I've been nominated for a Nobel prize 50 times so that makes me a genius. My friend says it's all spot on (What? Why do you ask if I've offered him a cut of the proceeds to say that?) so that proves it's right.
The maths is so complicated that no-one but me will understand it. But basically it boils down to multiplying the average weight of a Fresian cow by Steve Davis' average break at The Crucible, the result of that is raised to the power of what my nan had for breakfast.
This equation will not only explain the origins of Hobnobs, but also resolve the differences between Judaism and Islam, find out where Bin Laden is hiding, cure obesity, and make your tea in the morning.

Ooh, you are awful, Eth!

At least fasbinder's thread has been deleted now, at last.  (If only he'd stopped posting after the first 100 pages ...)

Very good. Now find something that didn't originate on Oyibo's own websites. Check with Harvard. According to Professor Venkatesh Narayanamurti, Oyibo has never been invited, nor has anyone asked for him to be invited. Then again, what would he know... he's only the Dean of the maths dept.

And so what if his books are on the shelf in university libraries? At my uni we had Asterix the Gaul comics in the library. It doesn't mean anyone actually believed in Toutatis or that the sky would fall on our heads!
Oyibo also claimed that the German military "in the form of their atomic weapons research program" were very interested in GAGUT. The Germans do not have any kind of atomic weapons research program.

quote:
Professor Oyibo was interrogated on the discovery on a national radio show, which is heard internationally and reaches about 25 million listeners. During the show, Professor Oyibo successfully answered questions from a large number of critics and other listeners, resulting in broad public confidence in the GAGUT discovery. In another radio discussion of the GAGUT discovery, which also reached about 25 million listeners...

Nigeria Radio 3 is run by someone called Oyibo. That particular station claims to have 25 million listeners in Nigeria & Ghana. Coincidence? (that information was supplied by Akunde Adebeyakin, a Nigerian official working in the UK).

In reply to independent mathematicians questioning Oyibo on GAGUT, he has consistently failed to explain it. He merely reels off names of people who have allegedly endorsed it - yet none of them can explain it either! Not once has Oyibo tried to prove his theory. He claims it is up to others to disprove it.

The whole thing is very reminiscent of Philip Emeagwali a few years back (another Nigerian incidentally) who made a bit of a breakthrough in computer science & then set up a network of websites on which he praised his own work, blowing his achievement out of all proportion to its actual importance. He, though, did at least have something to shout about.

Incidentally, if this discovery is so momentous, why is the official website hosted on Geocities? There is also a GAGUT site hosted at MSNGroups. I'm sure all the eminent professors who have allegedly endorsed & raved over GAGUT could have had a whip round to get it hosted on a more suitable site. Even the OFFAPIT institute's email is a Hotmail address!

I have produced lots of evidence in this thread & elsewhere which, while not proving beyond doubt that GAGUT is a scam, disproves many of Oyibo's claims & strongly suggests that it is all a big con. If you can produce something independent & authoritative to back up the claims you've made here, I may change my mind. Until then I'll continue believing it's a big fraud.

Claim - Oyibo got his degree at Cambridge university: False, he got it at Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria, in 1975.
Claim - Oyibo has been nominated for a Nobel prize 5 times: False. He may have been nominated once, but that was as part of the settlement in a dispute with a college in Boston.
Claim - Oyibo has published 104 books: False. He has published 10.
Claim - The German military advertises his book on their website: False.
Claim - The German atomic weapons research program is interested in his work: False. There is no such program.
Claim - there have been calls for him to speak at Harvard: False.

Need I go on? I don't think so.

Doc.

We've all seen these posts before, and there's no point in you wasting your time replying to them.

There's only one response required,  deletion

I can't accept the tea in the morning is any less valid then say in the afternoon. This seems gearing oversight on your part.  Also did you factor it the milk and was it skimmed milk. As for sugar let overlook that one shall we. In the event you the tea appears as planed is it going the crash down to earth or are we to believe it going to magically have a cup around it too. In the end it will all hinge on whether it is Earl Grey or Darjeeling with scones and strawberry jam with cream……. What were we talking about anyway?

What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.

The theory is so clever it can work out which type of tea you want and whether or not to add milk & sugar. It also calculates the probability of there being a cup (or other receptacle) in the appropriate place.

Doesn't the grand unified theory of everything come in a glass filled with volitile hydroxyl compounds.
