Title: How do you make synthetic diamonds?
Post by: IzzieC on 20/11/2017 15:55:38
Ben wants to know...

What is the best kitchen way to make synthetic diamonds? How would Methane gas (CH4) and Hydrogen (H) improve synthetic diamonds?

What do you think?

Diamonds are the most stable form of carbon at the temperatures and pressures about 150km below your feet.
- So you need some pretty extreme conditions to create them.
- Unfortunately, they are not the most stable form of carbon at Earth's surface, and will gradually turn into graphite.

Thin films of diamond have a variety of uses, and can be made by chemical vapor deposition without huge investment.
