sorry for teh problems
« on: 18/12/2011 02:07:44 »
Due to sleep deprivation, and some odd commands I managed to delete yesterdays data, but have restored the previous two weeks, really sorry.
   Dave

Should be the end of the problems now... plus hopefully this server is faster

There are a few teething problems,
the personal messages interface has issues with formatting.

which I am working on. If you notice any please tell me and I will see what I can do.

Dave, are you guys planning on changing the style of the TNS forum? Or is this new layout only momentary until you've got it back to before?

As for the rest you've done.
Great work..

Great work..

Sorry yes, I wanted to upgrade the forum to a newer version for security reasons, and that came with a new style as getting the exact same old one back would have been even more work than just getting most of the functionality,

the old server crash meant moving it onto the newer forum software in a horrible rush and I didn't have time to warn you. So there will be some teething problems.

On the up side you can now use tex tags if you know any latex to make pretty equations.
08c70ff873bf65b5b5179363e797f0db.gif
is made by
Code: [Select]
[tex]\frac{\alpha \beta}{\delta x}[/tex]
And the diagram drawing feature should work a lot better. as long as you are using firefox, chrome or a recent version of ie
[diagram=657_0]

I think I have fixed the personal messages formatting, and recent topics is almost working.

If anything grates tell me and I will see what I can do.

Imatfaal will luve latex :) And we others may have to try it too I guess. As for what's 'nagging'.

In FF 4 at least the "« Reply #5 on: Today at 15:14:58 "  on the left sides becomes small and almost unreadable. And it would be nice to have the ability to 'link out' from the thread to "General Discussion & Feedback" from above, as well as down under, the posts..

Well, other than that I don't have much to complain about so far :)

(There was that check for 'a l0t 0f m0ney' that TNS agreed on sending me yesterday though. A zillion I think it was, give or take a few. But I'm sure you will send it now that I reminded you of it:)

Thanks for all the hard work.

I kind of liked the pink envelopes...  but, I guess one can get along without them.  The pastel colors???  I suppose it is ok.  I guess I don't see the need for everything to be moving away from nice crisp color schemes.

Previously, there was a category for "My Posts" that which was nice, but perhaps not vital.  It was nice to see which of one's posts had been commented on.

The "Recent Topics" seems to be better than previously, as I never understood why they were broken down by category earlier.  I'm not sure if the items on the page are being sorted from newest to oldest.  I see there may be some adjustment for the sorting, but that seems to change the time period selection, and visa-versa.  Anyway, I would set the default for "Recent Topics" to be most recent first, and then one would just select the time period default (since last login, or last 2 days).

It looks like the "Draw" function might be almost usable.  I'll have to try it more in the future.

In FF 4 at least the "« Reply #5 on: Today at 15:14:58 "  on the left sides becomes small and almost unreadable.

If you change the "minimum font size" size in FF options from "none" to 9 that text becomes bigger and more readable (see attchment below)

* FireFox Options. change minimum font from 'none' to 9.png (59.47 kB, 1280x800 - viewed 468 times.)

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened to the Greek, and all the "scientific" characters in the editor?

Degrees?  °°°°

I liked the fractions, although they weren't vital.

Greek letters, Alpha, Beta, Gama, Sigma, etc...  are useful at times.

Oops...
Another note.

The "Modify" button in the bottom right of the message does not work.

It appears to work.
It just doesn't modify your message (at least for me).

The modify button at the top right is still fine.

Cambridge Scientist Discovers the Onosecond

Recent experiments performed by Dave Shorts have conclusively confirmed the existence of the highly debated onosecond.

The onosecond is usually only manifest during periods of extreme stress, although a common precursor is excessive ingestion of C. arabica. Applying recently developed neurotelemetry techniques, Mr Shorts was able to confirm that the onosecond is the time it takes for the human brain to assimilate information received via the visual cortex to determine that the autodigital response to the "do you really want to delete this?" interrogative is invalid.

Well I love the new layout - and as Yoron predicted - I like the fact that we now have latex implementation  (fnaar fnaar).  Have already used it to make pretty version of euler's formula!

Great work over the weekend Dave - may I add my thanks to those of the others for a hard job well done.

http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=40468.0 didn't work for me, although I can see my post if I look in 'my posts' in profile?

Can I second this?  Although one can get to see 'show posts' though 'Profile' it's not as navigable if you're trying to watch for replies on your threads.
