Lyle Rawlins asked the Naked Scientists:
Hi Chris,
As one who has lost family members to Cystic Fibrosis I greatly appreciate your updates on the condition.
Not only does CF wreak havoc on the lungs of someone with the condition it also has very significant digestive system. My nieces and nephew with it have had to take certain enzymes allow them to properly digest their food. Without the enzymes babies wasted away and appeared to be malnourished even though they were given plenty.
I lost 3 or 4 cousins in the 1940's before anything was known on how to care for them. So far I have lost a nephew and a niece to CF and another niece has had a double lung transplant due to the lung damage.
Keep up the good work.
Best regards,
Lyle Rawlins
What do you think?
