Title: i broke my tooth. let's talk about it...
Post by: kdlynn on 04/07/2007 18:43:45
ok, i was eating a relatively soft food yesterday and my tooth broke. obviously there was some prior damage. the dentist i saw put a temporary filling in because my nerve was exposed and it hurt a lot. he said that i don't need a root canal or a crown though... the more i think about it... isn't this strange? if it broke enough to have the inside exposed... is a filling going to be enough? and what is the filling stuff made of?

also, i realized that i only drink bottled water and that has no fluoride, and my toothpaste didn't have much. i absolutely cannot drink the water here. it's well water, and it makes me gag if i try to... does anyone know any good alternatives to get a little extra fluoride?

There are many types of material used to make filling. Glass, polymers, porcelain and possibly more.

If you dont get flouride from your water or toothpaste, you could always chew gum. As flouride is present in your salive, you can also get flouride tablets/lozengers. try your local pharmacist, they will know where you can get such lozengers or even stock them themselves.
