Title: are all stars moving away from each other at a constant speed?

i hear scientists say that all stars/galaxies are moving away from each other. if the 'big bang theory' is correct this would make sense. the problem i have is, that some stars and galaxies collide with one another and black holes pull stars and planets in. surely these two theories contradict one another?

The gravity and inertia of stars in galaxies and galaxies in clusters overrides the effect of space expanding and dragging them apart, but the galactic clusters are moving away from each other.

thanks, that makes more sense to me. much better than many of the science programmes ive been watching! lol
