The Environment / Are we past the point of no return on Global Warming?
« on: 16/10/2013 18:46:08 »
Are we past the point of no return on Global Warming?  I believe that we are past the point of no return on Global Warming.  It would require drastic action on the part of all nations to stop it.  In my opinion, we would have to stop burning coal, stop burning jungles just to clear the land, stop all motor traffic and especially stop all Jet aircraft action.  How long will this take?  I estimate that it will be about 100 years more ore less.  What do you think?  I would really appreciate hearing your opinion on this topic.  Regards, Joe L. Ogan

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Does anyone here feel qualified to discuss electricity in space?
« on: 07/08/2013 00:25:43 »
Does anyone here feel qualified to discuss electricity in space.  We know that it exists but we do not know very much about it.  I find the subject very intriguing but I know very little about it.  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

Assuming the universe was the shape of a ball, how large was it when the Big Bang happened.  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / In the Equation E=MC2, was the speed of light selected as a constant?
« on: 01/06/2013 22:40:42 »
In the Equation E=MC2 was the speed of light selected because it is a large constant and really has nothing to do with the energy in a given mass?  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

General Science / Is there no end to space?
« on: 07/12/2012 22:02:50 »
Is there no end to space?  Einstein had a formula for calculating space but it does not answer my question.  It appears to me that every thing must have an end but I can find no answer to my question.  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

General Science / Does light have substance? What's it "made" of?
« on: 28/09/2012 18:13:19 »
Does light have substance.  The only subsstance that I know I know about is that it is composed of electrons.  I find it interesting that it responds to the pull of gravity.  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / The sun has lived about a 1/2 life. What will happen when the sun dies?
« on: 21/07/2012 18:20:23 »
The sun has lived about a 1/2 life.  What will mankind do when the sun dies?  The sun will expand to enormous size and will burn up everything that exists on earth.  It has been estimated that about 300 plamets exist that may be capable of supporting life.  Will mankind arrange to move to one or more of these planets?  The first to go will probably be volunteers.  Later it will probably be impossible for most people to go.  What will be the selection process?  It will undoubtedly be young people capableof reproducing.  Will it be based on intelligence?  Thanks for comments.  Joe Ogan

General Science / What is the meaning of life to a scientist?
« on: 13/07/2012 19:22:11 »
What is the meaning of life to a scientist.  I have my own concept of the meaning of life but I would be very interested in seeing what a person who concideres himself a scientist in reading your concept.   Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

General Science / Falling body, 16 ft first second, 32 ft per second, per second
« on: 10/07/2012 22:10:18 »
What, exactly does per second, per second mean?  In the second second, how many feet does it fall?  48 feet?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / What actually happens when lightning strikes?
« on: 25/05/2012 21:33:47 »
What actually happens when lightning strikes?  Is there always a positive runner?  What does the damage?  Is it the negative runner?  Is it the positive runner?  Is it the heat?  Is there some other force exerted?  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

General Science / How do developing chicks breath inside an egg?
« on: 24/04/2012 14:33:51 »
What keeps a chicken from being asphixated before it gets strong enough to break the egg shell and get a breath of air?  Thanks for comments, Joe L. Ogan

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / What day or time is it?
« on: 22/03/2012 20:50:39 »
Do you know that leap year and 29th of February do not correctly show the proper time (or day)?  I am afraid that we shall never know exactly what time (or day) it really is.  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

The Environment / Why do we have a jet stream, and how does the jet stream work?
« on: 19/12/2011 18:35:58 »
I find the explanation of how or why a Jet stream works a little confusing.  I know it is caused by a high pressure area and a low pressure area coming together.  There is a natural tendency for  the high pressure to try to go to the low pressure.  In the northern hemisphere, the high pressure area rotates clockwise and the low pressure area rotates counter clockwise.  The rotation of the earth is toward the east.   The rotation of the earth has something to do with the jet stream, but I can not quite understand how this works.  The explanation is far from satisfactory to me.  Can someone please explain just how or why this works?  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Is the concept that the universe is inside of a black hole generally accepted?
« on: 28/09/2011 18:24:01 »
Is the concept that the universe is inside of a black hole generally accepted in the scientific world?  In addition, each black hole holds a different universe.  This is in line with the String Theory.  Leonard Susskind believes that it is beyond our capability to understand every thing about How the Universe works.  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

General Science / If brains are electrical, why can't we think at the speed of light?
« on: 22/09/2011 20:35:16 »
If the human being thinks by electrical impulse, why can't we think at the speed of light.  Is it because of resistance of the brain and other tissue that slows the thought process? Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

General Science / What are the dangers of blood transfusions?
« on: 29/06/2011 18:49:53 »
I have recently had 13 blood transfusions.  I know there is some danger of taking blood transfusions but am having a little trouble of identifying all of them.  Does anyone happen to know what all of the dangers are?  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

General Science / What is a Wallow Fire??
« on: 15/06/2011 00:41:07 »
What is a Wallow Fire?  This is the way they describe the fire in Arizona.  The dictionary does nor explain it.  Google does not explain it.  I am unfamiliar with the topic.  Do any of you know what a Wallow Fire is?  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan

The Environment / Is the unusual weather we have been having a result of global warming?
« on: 03/06/2011 18:24:38 »
I believe the weather we have been having is unusual.  I would like to know if it is a result of Global warming.  Thanks for comments.  Joe L. Ogan
