Title: Anything we've missed in the implementation?
Post by: chris on 30/03/2017 06:26:25
Regulars will doubtless have seen that things have changed quite a bit around here  ;D

But has anything been missed off this new implementation that was present in the old build (apart from the slow load times, pages that kept changing shape as you read them and the pink colour scheme) ?

Also, is there anything you'd really like to see added here that you think is sorely missing?

We'd love to hear your ideas below please.

Thanks.

Please add Greek/maths symbols to the character set.

Please fix the superscript button - it is sticky, doesn't cancel, and superscripts everything thereafter!

Please provide access to my profile - seems to be a missing tab!

Please remove the black "new replies" tabs - may be OK if you have a wide screen but  on a standard 4 x 3 they obscure the logout and some of the forum menu

Please stop notifying me of new members!

Other than that, it's excellent!

I loved the most recent posts box on the right.

I also liked the possibility to see what others users were doing.

Although Chris can't provide the voyeurism you might desire, he has brought back 2 feature - press on poster's name to bring up profile and it shows what they were last doing, or go to the bottom of the front page and click users online then click the green words x guests, y users.

It's not necessarily what the user is doing at that moment, I think it only updates every 15min. Also I think some people leave  browser on while doing other things, then log off without checking new posts

These functions still exist, albeit in one case in a slightly different place. Have you located them okay?

Also, are people funding the eNotify system helpful - this is the black box that pops up to the right at the screen top and tells you when people have replied to your posts or added new posts?

Yup. I found that the Unread replies function still works. Thanks :)

Yeah this is a great feature.

Yes, I'm finding it handy; when someone replies to me I can jump straight onto that thread and interact.

Sorry for the apparent voyeurism, but it was fun to watch who's visiting a particular topic/subforum. More forum statistics would also be cool.  8)

That system had all been working but something went wrong and it refused to cooperate so I had to sideline it while I fixed other things. It's on the list...

Great. :)

Another thing which would make this site really cool is per-user topic list in RSS format...

I don't know about RSS format, but I am working on a per-user "my posts" setting to aggregate all of the things you have posted in recently

The RSS specification is a XML based vocabulary implementing the RDF schema. It enables other sites to reuse syndicated content using a standard dataset.

Yes, I'm aware of what RSS is, but the absence of a pre-existing filter for the forum output means I'd need to write one and I've got higher priorities right now!

Just for you...fixed this.

I hope you will all also find the "MY POSTS" tab helpful, which enables you to keep track of discussions in which you have either participated previously, or started.

Meanwhile, "LONELY TOPICS" selects out the posts that need some love because no one has managed to answer them yet... I hope you will all make a special effort and help to unite those questions with their long-lost answer...
