Archimedes would be a good shout.
-
I would choose Planck or Lorenz and of course Maxwell who's name I could not recall despite being well equated with his work.
-
I vote for Galileo.
- He used experiments, thought experiments and mathematics to understand the world.
- These are the tools of modern physics.
-
My vote is for Albert Einstein who came up with some of the most important ideas in modern physics, such as the theory of relativity and the famous equation E = mc2
-
I think Aristotle wrote the first dedicated book on the subject.

The father of modern physics is Newton.
-
Would the mother be Marie Curie?
-
Marie Curie is the mother of radioactivity. Its father is Henri Becquerel.
-
Ernest Rutherford - the father of nuclear physics

Galileo Galilei is widely referred to as the father of physics. Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein are known as the Fathers of modern Physics.
-
I don't know about the father of physics but the mother of physics was probably Merit-Ptah female court physician in Second Dynasty Egypt around 2700 BCE, She probably kept Pharaoh comfortable on the throne with her concoctions.

English language is confusing, calling doctors physicians while their job is much more related to chemistry and biology; sure, chemistry is applied physics and biology is chemistry in motion, but still, that's a stretch that I had trouble assimilating when learning that language.
But to come back to the topic, yes, it'd definitely be Aristotle or Archimedes.

Aristotle held back science for thousands of years with his ideas, but Archimedes did use the scientific method.
Eratosthenes of Cyrene successfully measured the diameter of the earth to within a surprising degree of accuracy using a scientific method.

The medical doctors were using the word "physiology " long before physics was a subject of study.
It's derived from Phusis - the Greek word for "nature".
Aristotle held back science for thousands of years with his ideas
To be fair, while he made mistakes, the problem was that later philosophers worshipped him and refused to accept that he as wrong.
He could hardly be blamed for "holding science back" a thousand years after he died.

You are right, it was mainly the hero worship that did it. He did, however, reject some interesting ideas such as the fledgling atom theory and heliocentric universe, also he wasn’t in favour of using maths which is why I would go with Eratosthenes or Archimedes.

Well, I've re-read some of Artistotle's works, sounds like you'r eright, I hadn't read him in a while and it shows.
-

Oh it gets much worse.
The Professor of Physic teaches biochemistry to medical students who will be called Dr without holding a doctorate, whilst those who study surgery will call themselves Mr or Ms even if they have a PhD or MD.
I spend a lot of time doing medical physics for practitioners of physical medicine - osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists - who don't practice medicine.
But my vote is for Galileo whose simple reductio ad absurdam on gravitation demolished Aristotle, rationalised most of mechanical engineering, and made the conservation of energy a fundamental formalism of physics.
-
That depends on how you view it and which aspect in physics you're talking about. I would say that in general, it's probably either Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, or Albert Einstein.
-
I would say it is definitly Aristoteles in the way that he is the father of science as we know it in general. The way we think and do science definitly comes from a greek tradition. even our terms like "theory" and "knowlege", and Ideas abot the scientific methot and falsification/verification of hypotheses comes form the ancient greeks. Aristoteles was the first to categorys the sciences (philosophy) into mathematics, physics, metapysics, logic etc.
There were thinkers before him and even before sorcrates like thales from milet that did do some thinking about matters of physics, but Aristotels was the first to really make science sciency :D
-
I think it depends on how you define physics and which aspect of physics you're talking about. In general it could be Newton, Aristoteles or Einstein. In Germany they call Max Planck the "Father of modern physics".
-
It is rather impossible to trace the origin of physics back to merely one "founder", though the discussion is interesting. I believe that we need to think of the early Greek thinkers such as Thales, Aristotle, Plato, Socrates and Pythagoras. Even though they are all considered philosophers, our understanding of physics can most likely be traced back to them.

Galileo Galilei is the father of modern physics.

@sanu
IMHO This Question is a tad bit Illogical.
👎
It makes ZERO sense.
0
Rather, it promotes negative segregation, & also seeds possible futile debates.
🌵
It's Almost like entering a Synagogue, a Church & a Mosque & asking Who is the Real God!
🦧
Wish the Science Community at large Stops promoting & starts ignoring such ludicrous questions.

Hi.
@Zer0 's post was a bit controversial and surprisingly poignant. Thanks Zero that was worth reading.
I'm not going to repeat all of that post here.
IMHO This Question is a tad bit Illogical.

After Thought.
It does seem Incorrect to place forward & reward a Single Person for the efforts & accomplishments of the whole Species.
Even Bats, Frogs & Bunnies etc etc have played a vital role in Our collective achievements.
But yes, such questions might have Positive effects on young minds.
When they share info about their idols, they spread knowledge of their inventions & discoveries with it too.
Growing up, you learn to discard Who said it n focus on What was said.

"The perception" is the father (or mother) of physic.
Every living being with the ability of doing internal visualisation and simulation of phenomenons is doing physics.
Cats do physic.
Cats appear to understand some laws of physics.
Scientists in Japan have been studying cats and have found that they seem to use their hearing to work out whether objects they can't see exist.
They also appear to understand the principle of cause and effect, which means they know that actions can lead to a reaction.
Cats aren't about to start getting higher scores than you in their A-Levels though.
The university of Kyoto published its results in the scientific journal Animal Cognition.
////
Animal Cognition says "further research is needed to find out exactly what cats see in their mind's eye when they pick up noises".

Yes, everyone likes their scientist and considers him a genius. But let's face it.
Newton is the father of physics. Newton is considered one of the most important scientists in history.
Galileo is the father of the most important aspect of scientific methodology, proof by induction from experimental or observational evidence. But neither of these could be considered the “father of modern physics.” That accolade would go to Einstein.
-

Ok..
But how many actual applications (i dont say new theories nobody really knows if they are true) did the 2 Einstein's relativity theory lead to ?
3, 4 ?
Not very impressive (he did better with his quantification of light theory).
-
Personally I think it's got be Isaac Newton, he discovered some of the most fundamental thing and he is one of the first scientists we learn about in school so my vote is for Newton.
