Physiology & Medicine / Human Barometer?
« on: 29/09/2005 20:17:29 »
Anywhere up to 24 hours before it rains, I break out in an area about the size of a 50 cent piece.  It looks like poison oak and itches like crazy.   I've had this condition for about 20 years.

The odd part is the location on my body changes almost every year.  Right now it is located on the inside of my left knee, but it's been on my elbows, forearms, calf, toe, and even my nipple.  When it was on my nipple, it was during a period of time when I was nursing, so there was excess moisture which may have contributed.

The doctor perscribed a topical medication which always stops the itching, but that's not really my question.

My real [?] is why does this happen?  My friends used to think me nuts, but now have become believers [8)]

Any ideas?

Physiology & Medicine / Incorrect Hypothyroid Diagnosis??
« on: 08/11/2005 20:03:31 »
Hi all,

Have any of you experienced some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism such as fatigue, memory loss, weight gain, depression, constipation, yada yada but tested within the normal range.  I've had my thyroid tested numerous times but I always come back within the normal range (whatever that is).

I'm curious if some Doctor's will go ahead and treat this anyway with a low dosage of whatever it is they prescribe because maybe my "range" isn't normal.

Let me know if any of you have similar experiences.

Thanks,
Laurie

Physiology & Medicine / Re: Stumped Civilian and Military Doctors

I know that my husband's friend gets tired easily, but he golfs, plays tennis, etc., has thick blood, lymph nodes are swollen.  He is probably around 50, but has had this for quite sometime.  He went to alot of Doctors before they figured out what it was.

What triggered me to think of him, was his biggest complaint is "his blood is sooooooo thick".

Anyway, it's a crap shoot, but ask your med friends, I'm curious to what they say.  Let me know.

Raptor,

My husband spoke with his friend, and he has something called "Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia".   Many of his symptoms are what you describe such as thick blood, lymphe node swelling, soreness, etc.

I don't know if this is what you have, as I'm far from being a doctor.

Here is the website I found on the internet.  I hope this helps.

Please let me know if this sounds like you.

Physiology & Medicine / Have you ever had a Thunderclap Headache During Orgasm?
« on: 11/10/2005 21:14:53 »
I haven't had a thunderclap headache since July.  The doctor had originally put me on a beta blocker, but to be frank it was just another pill I didn't want to become dependent upon.  Plus, everything I had read on the internet led me to believe this could disappear and then reappear in 10 years, or maybe never.

I definitely don't want it to interfer with my sex life [;)]

I know what you mean about scary, they hurt like hell.  My Doctor assured me there was nothing to worry about, but I had them do an MRI anyway.  They haven't happenened in the last couple of months, but I think they will happen every time.

It's not real good for the sex drive....

Raptor -

Is your blood still thick??? My husband's friend has many of the similar symptoms and I know one of them is thick blood.  Let me know, and I will ask my husband more questions too.

Physiology & Medicine / I am Sodium Deficient - What does this mean?
« on: 07/10/2005 23:23:52 »
Hi,
I just had a blood test done and the doctor called and said they want to retest me because my sodium level was low.

What are the side effects of low sodium?   I always thought I had to worry about too much salt???

I think I eat a normal amount of salt, in fact I think I'm retaining water from too much.

Any ideas?

Andrew:  You know, I can't remember if I was holding my breath or not.  Good question, and it does make sense.....I know one time I was on my back and it very well could be possible I wasn't breathing.  The other time I was on my knees (too much info??) and I don't think I was holding my breath, but truthfully I don't 100% remember as I was concentrating on other things.

I just remember the headache came on SO quickly, not gradually like other headaches, it happened in a split second.

I wish I could answer the part about the breathing, butI will tell you this, I will make sure I breath from now on.....just in case this is the cause.  I don't ever want to have another one.

No, Andrew it should have been [:0]. [:D]

To answer a question, this headache came on exactly at the time the orgasm began, and it didn't quit (I'm talking the headache now [;)]) for a good hour, though I had a severe headache for about 4 days (the migrane type).  It truly was the worst headache I've ever had.  It felt just like the name "thunderclap".  The orgasm ended fairly abruptly as my head hurt to badly.  I remember grabbing my head with both hands and thinking "Oh my God, I'm having an aneurysm, not that I know what an aneurysm feels like.  The pain went down the back of my head almost to my neck.

Love your comments & feedback [8D]

Has anyone ever experienced a "thunderclap" headache right at the time of orgasm?   I've had this happen a couple of times, and it happens almost spontaneously.

The headache is excrutiating (spelling?).  I ended up having a migrane for a few days afterwards as well.

I didn't mess around, I went to the doctor, they did a MRI and found nothing.  I was told this happens sometimes for no apparent reason or cause.

Just curious if I was alone in this.....

Honey, I really DO have a headache [}:)]

I've oftened wondered why we feed babies solid food until they get teeth?  It seems to me that when you get teeth you should eat solid food and not before.  I believe we feed our babies solid (or mashed) food before they are ready, otherwise they would have had teeth when they were born.  Any ideas?

Hi,
He's tried the C-Pap machine, but he ends up pulling it off in the middle of the night.  He does it without even waking up.
I was just hoping there was some miracle cure like eating raspberries or something (just joking).
Unfortunately from all your responses it looks like he best visit the doctor before things get worse.

Cathye,
Do you use AOL or something else?  I save the web address below in my "Favorites".  I'm not a computer guru (except I did figure out the dang smileys) [:o)].  If you know someone that can help you with computers, just ask them how to save something in your favorites.

Let me know if it works for you.

I'll write more later.......

Andrew,
THANK YOU.   I will try this the next time I get a sinus infection.  I really appreciate you responding to my question!

I'm passing on all your tips/websites to my husband when I get home.

I don't know how many times he stops per hour as I sleep like a log.  90% of the time I don't even realize he snores!  I only notice it when his snoring keeps me awake after I go to the restroom.   I think he probably doesn't breathe for maybe 10-15 seconds?  I will have to pay more close attention.   Thanks again for all your input, Laurie

I appreciate both your responses and the referrals to the other websites.

Do either of you know what could be potentially dangerous?  I thought you just felt tired, not that this is healthy, but I didn't know it could be dangerous.

My husband is 6'2" so the 25 lbs doesn't seem like much to me, but any amount of being overweight isn't healthy.

Hi,
My husband seems to be experiencing more and more sleep apnea.  He is a few pounds overweight (25 maybe).  He seems to be better when he lies on his side.  He feels really tired in the morning, even after 8 hours sleep.  Does anyone have a miracle cure?
Thanks!

Ok Andrew, this sounds tempting to me since I get sinus infections quite frequently.  Just have question or two.  How much lemon juice do you "snort" as I picture myself drowing in the stuff.  As a sinus infection sufferer, I'm willing to try just about anything, including snorting lemon water.
