I've got an old mobile (cell) phone that I haven't used for a while as Shiloh the Staffie ate the charger. It ran out of charge about 6 weeks ago. Approx 3 days ago I moved it to the windowsill as Monty the pup had gotten hold of it. Previously the phone was totally out of charge and wouldn't switch on.
Yesterday morning the alarm on it went off. I thought "What the hell!". I did; that's exactly what I thought. There was no colour in the battery indicator. I turned the alarm off and the phone switched off again.
This morning it went off again and now the battery indicator has about 10% colouring.
To rule out some (obscure) possibilities...
It is not in direct sunlight as that window faces roughly north.
There are no power cables anywhere near it.
There is nothing magnetic around.
What on Earth is going on?

Batteries often appear exhausted because an inactive layer has built up between the electrodes although there still remains some potential charge in them.
While resting this inactive layer dissolves making the residual charge available.
I am sure chemistry experts on this board could give a more detailed explanation.

It was common when I was a kid to put old batteries in the warm when the ran low to give them a boost, maybe heat helps to rejuvenate the electrolyte.

That's possible as there's a radiator below the windowsill.

How would an arse socket course something to charge up!!!!!?
We always take batteries out and rub them vigorously to get the last vestiges of charge out of them. David is very tight with his money.

the battery indicator is not 100% accurate if ur phone has only 30% power left turn ur phone off and then on it again it will then show u 70% charging and yes the battery is never 100% dead and the ability of minimum regeneration of its own. its because of the self movement of the ions away from the electrode.
