Title: OUCHIE......any temorary dental suggestions?
Post by: Karen W. on 14/09/2009 10:12:03
Ouchie......
Last night I was eating a nice soft ripe pear off my tree and I suddenly chewed and realized my upper back molar that I had filled as a child broke wy around the filling.. I have not had time to get a appointment... It seems, the silver part of the filling is snagging my tongue as it feels sharp.....making my tongue sore and now I have bitten my tongue hard 4 times already this morning.. I think I will cry now! It Hurts like a son of a gun!

Does anyone have any suggestions until I can get to a dentist?

I have vague memories of cloves being good for dental issues (as painkillers).  That might be worth a try until you can get to a dentist...

You can buy DIY temporary repair kits which include white temporary filling material (and a bottle of clove oil).

I've used this one to replace a lost filling in a molar. I had to top-up the temporary filling every couple of weeks as it wore away, (it can take months to get a dental appointment in the UK).

Wow.. That would be cool and would it make it less sharp ... does it dry hard on your tooth....?

It takes about an hour to set, (don't eat until it sets). When set it has the consistency of blackboard chalk: hard but will readily wear away and crumble, (so it can be removed easily by the dentist when a permanent filling is made).

A numb mouth is not a good idea: you can't tell when you're biting yourself.

I agree and I have bitten my tongue about 6 times now and my tongue does not like me right now.. after the first really hard bite it swelled up and made itself a target by getting in the way of my talking and eating so I have subsequently bitten in many more times and it is tres uncomfortable right now!
