Dearest Spaceologists,
As a sheepy I am of course capable of being propelled into space. It's obvious isn't it ?
Sheepy Ewe Humper = Astrosheep Capability....obvious !!..Blatant even !
Look, here's a thing called a space shuttle !

Nice eh ? delivering it's payload of fresh hay next Tuesday.
But, unlike the space shuttle..I do not need to roll over on my back when I'm launched !

I of course can roll over on my back and this enables girlys heads to rest on my tummy and hear my sheepy purr...
...So, why does the Space Shuttle have to perform this roll-over maneuver when it launches ?
As a firm believer in empirical study I snuck into my neighbours house at 4am this morning and strapped him to a stick and attached two rockets to him and set him off..Being dark, I asked him to text me if he did in fact perform a rolling maneuver...... perhaps it was not such a wise choice to launch him from inside his lounge !!...he rather selfishly made some large holes as he was shot through his ceilings then his roof !.....He could have warned me about that...despite having gaffer tape over his mouth !..it's rather brought the tone down of the neighborhood !.....sheesh !! Anyway, I never received a text and I'm still waiting for him to come back. He's probably having a great time too !!
So, whilst I await my neghbours return, perhaps ewe can help me ?..can ewe ?..it really would be simply spiffy of ewe if ewe could !

Roll Me Over, lay Me Down And Do It Again

1) To reduce the strain on the vehicle's frame caused by frictin with the air.
2) Each mission launch has to send the vehicle up at a certain angle (azimuth angle) to reach the correct orbital plane. The roll adjusts the vehicle to this angle.
3) Many of the instruments carried in the cargo hold need to be pointed towards the Earth. It also helps with comunication with the ground.

Were you saying that the shuttle has to do a 'bank turn' to end up pointing where is needs to go? That could make sense.
Problem is that it isn't going very fast when it starts to roll so could it really manouver using its wing surfaces? I thought it could be that it is not symmetrical so the heaviest side tends to fall (roll) downward and the air speed is insufficient for it to 'fly' itself into an upright position.
I'm glad that you may be glad that you may be able to help me with this one.

What a lovely mundane set of reasons!
The bit about using an old launch tower made me laugh.
Taking the load off the wings was a good idea, too.
