The brats brought home a report on how their primary school had spent its resources. When I read it, I wanted to go straight round there and hit someone.
Special needs education - £500
Sculpture inside the main gate - £6,600
Does anyone else agree with me that they need to get their priorities sorted out a bit better?

Yes. I don't think there's much need to elaborate.
-
Unless it's a very small school which happens, this year, to have (say) one child with mild dyslexia making up the total demand on the school's special needs budget... that's pretty astonishing.
Presumably they can't have any children with sufficient additional needs to require an additional classroom support assistant.
Unless, actually, what you're looking at here reflects a small expenditure on something like a sending someone on a training course and all the rest of the expenditure on individual pupils is funded from a seperate pot by the local education authority? I'm not sure how these things work out...
-
Rosy - there are about 250-300 pupils.
Books - £150. There's another 1 for you.
-
Ahem. Excuse me while my eyes pop out of my head.
OK, have run out of possible get-out clauses. That's just scary.
-
How much are they spending on personnel? After spending more than 12 years on the local school board- we figured that 80% to 85% of the budget on salaries and benefits was ideal in our district (700 students). Because of failed levies, at one point we were at 92%, and everything else suffered- no money for extra-curricular activities, books, supplies, travel, etc. Remaining 8% pretty much had to go to maintenance, utilities, insurance, etc.
-
Even if they have (currently) no children with special needs there would be more merit in spending the money on maintaining the appropriate skills of the teachers for the future when some child will arrive who needs help rather than spending it on a ****ing sculpture.
Has this school really got £6600 to burn?
-
Is it a nice sculpture ?
*broken eenglieesh mode*...pleeze to take photo and to paste here very good !
Thank ewe
-
Bass - If I can find the paper I'll post a complete breakdown of the expenditure. I think I threw it away, though, as we're tidying & packing ready to move.

I will be astounded if it's a nice enough sculpture to justify taking the money away from education.
-
It's a brass statue of a child with an adult. It's nice, but I wouldn't have spent that kind of money on it.
-
Is the local Arts Council funding schools?
-
Are you sure this money came out of the school budget and didn't come out of an earmarked piece of funding that was specifically to improve the school environment.
I would go and talk to the governors who would have rubber stamped this kind of spend. There should be at least two parent governors who should be looking after your interests.

Whilst you're there berating the guvnars will you ask them if they are interested in a piece that I have just created...it's a piece of paper rolled up into a ball...it'll only cost them 4K and I'll donate it back to the school fund..(less expenses £1.39)

WOW... I'll nominate you for the Turner Prize!

Well instead of wingeing about a little brass statue, i think you should spend some of your Vast fortune on the local school, after all, it is populated with mainly your offspring !

I beg your pardon? MY offspring? I think not!

There was no mention of that. It was all listed as straightforward expenditure.
-
I take it from your response, that the school is not populated with the beautiful people ?

It's full of kids; beautiful doesn't come into it!
-
Beaver, get down there and insist on being a school governor. Go on, then you will have a say in the spending. I was a governor, can't say I enjoyed it, but at least I could say that I didn't just moan. I did something.

Redundancy shows that the Beaver went to a school with quite a few statues. (they were disguised as nibbled logs.)

Speaking of redundancy, wasn't quoting that post twice a bit redundant?

Please refer to the time stamo on the two quotations. You posted the same thing at

and then at

I thus am referring to redundancy in your posting of the same comment twice.

I think Miss Jane Smoot would be hitting you over the knuckles with her ruler, if she could see your spelling and grammer.

Carp, carp, crap (oops, misspelling) - and leave my grandmother out of this!
