Title: Can malaria be reprogrammed to attack malaria?
Post by: thedoc on 17/04/2014 17:30:02
Peter Steadman asked the Naked Scientists:

Is it possible to reprogramme malaria to only invade cancer cells in the human body? A contagious cure?

What do you think?

Quite interesting. But malaria is a protozoa and attacks only liver and red blood cells. So it is interesting to see if malaria parasites can kill at-least liver cancer cells. From practical point of view it may not be possible as the parasite relies on hemoglobin in red blood cells to sustain and multiply in the body.
