Farah Jarjous via Facebook asked the Naked Scientists:

Hello,

Is it physically possible for humans to generate a sound wave that is at a higher/lower frequency that the one we can hear?

What do you think?

Would clapping our hands count? If so, I think some of the high frequency sound produced will be inaudible to humans.

Also waving your hand will create subsonic frequencies in general you cannot hear these at all but if you wave your hand close to your ear you can just detect them by non linear effects.
