Title: Does receptor activation lead to an increase in mRNA expression of that receptor

My research project is about the effect of γ-Hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) on 5-HT2 (A and C) receptor mRNA expression, but I'm finding the whole thing confusing. First and foremost, once the 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors have been activated by subsequent agonists, would this lead to an increase in mRNA expression? Would the activation lead to the increase?

Receptor activation induces downstream mRNA expression of secondary messengers via signal transduction.
