I ticked one item off my bucket list earlier this year - I went to see the Aurora (the Australis version).
An overnight plane flight to around latitude 60° South, zig-zagging above the cloud-tops to give everyone good views of the aurora.

Hi Karen, if you look through the thread several posters had made fun of the term bucket, in various descriptions and idioms. I just added one I had thought of, other than that my post was totally devoid of useful information. I will just add the term has two meanings I know of: one is a fire fighting method of primitive nature and the other is a charge coupled electronic delay product.

I see Alancalverd seeks to expire in Westport. I don't think I can accept that. It would mean the state would have to pay for the resulting pauper's funeral. No, no, that proposal will have to be quashed, regardless of what chord he plans to finish with.

Being a modest chap, I won't embarrass our friendly neighbors with the cost of a state funeral. The duty police doctor can sign the death certificate and either the lads can bring me back to The Boss's garden in the back of the van (the double bass can have my seat) or they can give my appearance fee to Westport crematorium and sprinkle the debris off the end of the pier.

It probably won't make the Irish Times or Jazz News but I think Mayo News will cover the festival. Being a stickler for correct spelling, I'd be grateful if you could check my name with their music correspondent. The band is called Afinado, the song was All Blues (Miles Davis, 1959)., and the unresolved chord will be Am7.

A minor seventh? hmm, I think you could get something more harmonious. I have always felt that on a electric guitar at least, sevenths sounded a bit harsh, I won't go as far as discordant. Also how does one play
a chord on a double bass, maybe you have exceptionally long digits? And good morning to you, Alan.

Ah ha... I had never heard the 2nd usage of that phrase before. Thanks... So could you give me an example of that charge coupled electronic delay product....?

I have not looked at these products in ~40 years. They were used in musical paraphernalia to produce delays and echoes and I think they may have been used in pitch transposers. As I never actually deployed one of these devices, I unfortunately cannot inform you any better. I would imagine digital techniques have largely supplanted them in current equipment. The principle was quite simple: a series of capacitors connected by switches sequentially clocked to move the input signal down the chain and hence produce a delay. Obviously a lot of losses would occur and I simply cannot remember how this was addressed.

Difficult to play chords on a double bass, but we use a lot of arpeggios. A minor seventh builds tension and makes a great intro to a vocal: I like to use it to open "Summertime" because the vocalist can easily pick out the fifth, which is the starting note for the melody.
