Whether it's Parliament, Congress or the Dail, the object is to give a semblance of democratic legitimacy to an elected dictatorship.

Unlike Stormont, where professional criminals divide the spoils; Strasbourg, where the members have no constitutional authority over an unelected dictatorship; or Holyrood where they debate the merits of independence of a country that is entirely dependent on subsidies.

Just breathing is an accomplishment!

But "just sitting" is often accompanied by coffee, talking, philosophizing and watching the scenery.

In traditional societies, the elderly have valuable and respected roles. Unfortunately, our fragmented Western society has lost sight of these roles, and so the elderly are often left to stagnate in "retirement villages".

...and not everyone has to be a workaholic, Chris!

Children go to the same place every day to do nothing for hours because we have no ambition for them to learn anything there.
