What does the ' corned ' in Corned Beef refer too ?
WEll I know how they make corned beef, and at least by the recipe my grandmother used there is no corn but it calls for these ingredients in the cure for the meat, and it takes 8 days to do it!
1 and 1/2 cup. salt
1 cup of sugar
3/4 teaspoon of saltpeter
1 (8 to 10 pound brisket)
I know alot of people use the pepercorns as a very basic seasoning, so I think it is probably the pepercorns in the seasoning as the recipe for making your own corned Beef brisket is above!
sugar improves flavor and saltpeter gives the meat a reddish color!!
-
I should send you instructions it is excellent and very good. it keeps well!

I don't like corned beef. I used to when I was a kid but went off it. Probably because I used to have it in my sarnies everyday [:(] [::)] [;)]

Two ways to bring ewe back to corned beef joy !!..one..is to mix it with some mashed potatoes , onions and garlic and fry it...the other...is to mix it in with some minced beef in a home in a Shepherds Pie...it really adds a great texture and flavour.....
Oh..there is another way...and that is to jump naked into a dogs home and smear it all over yourself and enjoy dog licking tonguey fun !!..YAYYYYYYYYYYY
-
I like the sound of the first one, second one sounds nice, third option, hmmmmm, I guess I could try that this weekend [;)]
