some male friends in business have told me they are now reluctant to hire women in fear of being unfairly accused of harassment at a later date.

will this caution on the part of male employers cause a negative result in the efforts of women to succeed in the business environment?

I remember that people complained when the word "gay" was adopted as a synonym of"homosexual", because they could no longer use it in its older meaning of bright and cheerful.
The observation was made at the time that most of the people who were complaining never considered anything to be bright and cheerful anyway, so they were not actually losing anything.

In much the same way, I suspect that companies that "won't employ women for fear of being falsely accused" are the sort of companies that wouldn't employ women anyway but feel they now have a new excuse.

In the EU, such a policy would be illegal in almost any circumstances anyway.

Obviously, my imaginary sister's company only employs women, that way she doesn't have to worry about

fear of being unfairly accused of harassment at a later date.

Have your business minded male friends considered that approach*?

*(Obviously, that's rhetorical, Such a policy would also be illegal as well as bloody stupid)

in my working career, I owned (sole proprietorships) over 20 companies from coast to coast in the USA.
due to the nature of the business (only one employee per operation) i hired mostly women.

the few men i hired were mostly poor choices...i found them to be less willing to follow directions; but tended to attempt to run the operation independently in line with their own concepts.

the women who faired worst were influenced by the men in their lives; who gave them poor advice.

that being a given; in addition to the threat of the #metoo movement, i would be reluctant to hire women again.

(as to being illegal to discriminate against any sex or religion or race...try to prove it!)

Thanks for letting us know that you are better able to judge the character of female job applicants than that of male ones.

If you start employing people in the EU be very careful about only employing men (or women).

You are, for example, allowed to only employ women if the job is modelling bras.

I wish to apologize for my rather snide comment "you are welcome" in my previous post.

i have the unfortunate habit ot allowing my fingers at the keyboard to respond without allowing my brain to first digest the content and intention of the post.

i should have responded that in no way do i consider myself "better able to judge the character of female job applicants than that of male ones."..when in fact i have very little ability in judging the character of females in any situation.

my judgment in hiring was based primarily in the performance of previous hires, both men and women. i found men to be the more predictable (perhaps given the inside knowledge of being one myself). however the predictability indicated that men are more likely to attempt to take control by forcing their concepts over those in existance.

I have found women employees to be more willing to learn and be more cooperative in the established procedures. unfortunately i found many to be influenced by men (in negative ways); to the detriment of their careers.

please accept my apology for a snarky response...i will attempt to train my brain to take better control over my fingers

The logical  application  of  your  question is  neurological  security ,  there is  no fear  of  hiring a  female  but  have  a   security  camera  in your office  or  never be  alone  with a  women  in the work place .   That way  you'll always have proof  by way of video or  witnesses in the unfortunately  event of  falsely  accused .  This  can  also  be  said  for  women  hiring  men , neurological security  begins  with always being  self  aware of  circumstance  and  try to predict the worse case scenarios  of the situation  you could put yourself in .
