The batteries disappear under the furniture and I cannot find the power switch in the dark !

Ah yes! Syhprum's Law of Remotes.

We have five cordless phones in the house. Unfortunately, one of them has disappeared. No problem, simply use the intercom function to find it. Well, that would work if we had noticed the phone was missing before the battery discharged!

A judicious application of duct tape on the battery compartment and the batteries will not fall out unless the remote disintegrates. Also useful when the cheap crappy plastic bits break from age ( in my case, not so if you have kids) ant the cover falls off.
