Avoid hair loss with vitamin D?
« on: 16/02/2021 15:21:01 »
Dear Community,
a few month ago I started suffering from lightly hair loss. A friend of mine told me, it could be a vitamin D deficit and recommended a supplement product from the netherlands to me <link removed>
So my question is, could it really help? And are these kind of products trustful? I never had tried this before, so iam a little sceptic.
Thanks for all answers!
Best wishes.

Our modern indoor couch-potato  lifestyle does result in a surprising number of people with vitamin D deficiency.

But your doctor can check this with a test before you start taking any extra Vitamin D.
- Or you could just go for a walk at lunch-time...

Hey evan_au,
according to the University of California, vitamin D deficiency promotes hair loss.

The hair follicle cycle is characterised by three phases: Anagen phase (hair grows), Catagen phase (hair growth stops) and Telogen phase (hair dies).
If there is a vitamin D deficiency, the hair follicle cycle is altered or interrupted. Thus, one phase can be prolonged or drastically shortened, leading to hair loss.

The body can produce 80 to 90 percent of the vitamin D it needs itself with the help of sunlight. People who spend time outdoors every day are usually well supplied.
10 to 20 percent of the vitamin D requirement is covered by the diet. But vitamin D is only found to a limited extent in food. The highest concentration is found in fatty fish and cod liver oil.

Best regards (:

Why would it stop when there was a deficit?
That's not a very sensible thing for evolution to do it it?

Or maybe its the attention of our body to tell us to spend more time outside ;) So it woulf bei very inteligent, if your body knows whats god for you.
I guess you could do nothing wrong with Vitain D, but there are as well a lo ot other reasons for hair loss.  For example deficiency of Biotin, Stress or an unhelaty lifestyle. The use of Rosamary Oil could  help. As well other natural home remedys. In case you wanne try some home remedy first: <commercial link removed> . Its a german article, but easy to translate with Google Translate.
Good luck

Hi,
Hair loss can be a symptom of vitamin D deficiency, but there can be other causes as well.
Vitamin D deficiency is caused, among other things, by insufficient exposure to the sun, malnutrition or by taking certain medications. In addition to hair loss, symptoms such as muscle and limb pain or an increased susceptibility to infections can occur.
Before taking vitamin D supplements, you could try spending more time in the sun. You can also try getting more vitamin D through your diet. In addition, if the symptoms are severe, it would be useful to see a doctor.

Come back when you have the results of a placebo-controlled trial.

Male-pattern hair loss is caused by genetics and testosterone.
- I understand you can prevent it by becoming a eunuch, but the cure sounds worse than the disease.

I can honestly say that I don't regret going bald.  It has freed me from the humiliating ritual of going to the barbers.

Even if vitamin-D tablets could restore my hair, I wouldn't take them.

What's the point of having hair on your head anyway?

Many factors can cause hair loss. These include various diseases, medication, stress, vitamin deficiencies, a weakened immune system, genetic predisposition and hormonal balance.
Vitamin D deficiency can also cause severe hair loss. Vitamin D plays an important role in the hair follicle cycle and thus influences hair growth.
There are a few studies that analyze the effects of vitamin D on hair health. However, if there is a lack of vitamin D, it is recommended to eliminate it.

I really don't understand why you're getting so obsessed about your hair falling off.

I mean, it's not like your arms and legs are falling off, is it?

Legs and arms are vital organs.  If they fell off, you'd be in real trouble.

Whereas, hair falling off causes no trouble. So why keep moaning on about it?  Please get a grip!

Vitamin d deficiency is not caused by malnutrition, it iis caused by lack of sun exposure and not supplementing in the winter. Peolple need to get it into their heads that nutrition and vitamin D levels have a tiny connection, unless sea food makes up the vast majority of your diet. What you get in your food is almost incidental. It's like saying that a sun tan is connected to nutrition, they're only connected if you eat a loads of carrots.

Yes there (usually) is.
Male pattern baldness can be avoided by castration.
Most men seem to prefer the lair loss.

Male pattern baldness can be avoided by castration.
It works best if the castration occurs before puberty.
Male-pattern hair loss occurs after puberty. And most of the damage to the hair follicles occurs years before the hair loss becomes visible.
So a lot of young men would need to make a major choice at a very young age...

I think us men need more bald role models like Patrick Stewart in the Star Trek franchise (or, for an older generation, Yul Brynner in The King and I).
