Tony, I'm sorry but only moderators can make topics sticky....else anyone with ill intentions could could force provocative posts to remain...and there have been a few of these recently. I trust you understand.

would the moderators make a post sticky,if they thought it warranted it (stupid question raymond, answer, yes ),or do we have to make a specific request, and how would we do that.
this is probably the most sensible question i could think up.

You'll find that most topics that are sticky are ' general' ones that can be added to at any time like the diary thread, news articles etc etc ...they rarely are a particular enquiry as no one particular question stands out as a fundamental topic of such significance that it warrants being made sticky...besides, if we had too many sticky topics then they would get in the way of the main flow of the site which is an ever changing canvas.

comprendez [?][:D]

I assume Tony wanted to make his thread regarding the largest number of hits sticky. That really doesn't (in my opinion) warrant being made sticky above somebody else's genuine science question. Besides, making a topic sticky does not keep it on show when you click 'active topics' ..no no...only when a topic has had a response will it be displayed there.

And of course the people who run this site are open to suggestions etc..in fact..I was thinking about making a suggestion thread...whajafink ?

a suggestion site would be great, only you would get the crank element making stupid suggestions i think, so it could be self defeating,(does that sound right )as for the rest of your very concise and informative answer,i was expecting something like "send an e-mail "it has all become clear [8D][;)]

Sounds like a suggestion you should put on the suggestions thread [:D]

I think it depends upon how much active effort the mods are willing to put in providing regular guidence.

If it is just a place for where people can throw wild ideas that get no feedback, then wild ideas is what you will get.

If it is somewhere where the mods (not your average punter) can provide active feedback, saying this is a great idea, or trying to give discouragement to some of the wilder element, would probably keep it under control – but it does depend on someone putting the effort in.

It also depends on those things that are considered positively being actioned (note: Environment topic).

Incidentally..Just in case it has been misunderstood...I have no part in the running of this site and no powers to change the format of it..I am just one of a handful of ' caretakers ' who volunteer our assistance to the big boss !!..I can only make suggestions via email like everybody else....I'm just one of the Proletariate ! George of course you're right.

It really would be no skin off my back to filter a suggestion thread....I'm doing this most days anyway...as for the environment thread ???..I agree..it's taking far too long to show itself...email Chris..he probably could do with a reminder/kick up the backside !!

if i am to read the thread corrctly, chris is far too busy with flatulence to worry about environmental issues, well when we start to drop off like flies because of the increased levels of methane,he will have to sit up and take notice. [:0]

windy pops, botty burps, or even shirt tail lifters !all it is,is methane, and all that does is cause a minor effect called global warming, which by the way no one could give a damn about, because they wont have to go to fiji,or tahiti, or some other "i" to see palm trees(botanists note)they will be able to grow then in their garden, thus saving colleges and universities a fortune,no more expensive "field trips" to the booze capitals of the world,oh no,students of the future wont even have to wear wellies,it will be flip-flops and baggies for all,we need to forget all this and concentrate on the real issue of a suggestion string, instead of worrying about spurious emmitions[}:)]
e-mail chris ? whats that all about ? oh now hes a star,up there with newton and hawking,he dont give a rats rear about us underlings, cant be bothered to come down to our pages, bet theirs have got gold leafy bits round the edge.[:0][:0]

yes I have Tony...thank you very much.

..I aso refer you to my comment made earlier in this thread (I think it was the fourth one down)

Those topics are generic ones that are available for update by anyone and cross the borders when it comes to subject matter.

Apart from the ZETACAP thread here, individual question/discussion posts eventually fall to the wayside and get replaced by others.
