Just Chat! / Do you want to "talk" about American Politics?
« on: 28/02/2021 18:57:18 »
Hello again,
For those who know, this is for you. The people who want to talk (not whinge please), about American Politics when they did it in the wrong place (a JOKES thread :o). Right, try not to have too much fun...

Just Chat! / Predictions?
« on: 30/12/2020 10:49:10 »
Dear all,
I am not sure if this topic belongs here, but I will give it a try.

There was a post on https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=81038.0 that asked if there were any religious past predictions that have been fulfilled. I searced up on this and found two examples. Are these just chance, or deeper?

1) The Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said, ‘Verily you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful leader will her leader be, and what a wonderful army will that army be!’ [Musnad Ahmad, Al-Hakim, al Jami’ al Saghir]¹ This has happened in 1453, but it could also be referring to the predicted future 'takeover'.

2)Michele de Nostredame, better known as Nostradamus, was the 16th-century physician and supposed seer, who has fascinated conspiracy theorists with his predictions for decades. Nostradamus' followers believe the French mystic predicted the rise of Adolf Hitler to power in 1933 as well as the Great Fire of London in 1666. Many also believe Nostradamus predicted the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.² He wrote,
“Near the gates and within two cities
“There will be two scourges the like of which was never seen,
“Famine within plague, people put out by steel,
“Crying to the great immortal God for relief.”

What do you think about these predictions? Can you shed some light on them? Do you have any other examples?

Do you have a joke? Well, you are in the right place. Post all of your cringy joke on this page, and nowhere else. They could be science jokes or normal ones.

So get cracking,

General Science / Why do Babies Sleep Instantly, When We Sleep a long time after we go to bed
« on: 28/11/2020 18:16:07 »
Hi,
Why do babies go to sleep almost instantly, while we have to wait for sleep to come after we go to bed? This question popped in my head just now, as I am watching my niece seep upstairs through the baby monitor. Could it be because of the phases of sleep; it would be nice to know.

Yours sincerely,

New Theories / Could this be a new way to prove dark matter?
« on: 28/11/2020 18:03:38 »
Hi everyone,
I had this idea this morning in bed about a way that we could prove the existence of dark matter. This is just an idea, and I want to ask your advice; let's begin!

When you are shading an object on a piece of paper with a pencil, you can sometimes see some grainy or missed bits of shading. Of course, you will quickly scrub your pencil over that area once again to fix this. To your eye, you will see that there are no more bits of dodgy shading, but if we got a microscope over your work, you will see that there might be some grainy places on the sheet; this might have to do with the type of paper you see, the pencil you use or the surface you work on.

Yesterday, I was watching a recording of the show Powering Britain. In the documentary, a female chemist/laboratorist, at one of the largest nuclear power plants in Britain, was monitoring the water feed for particular particles, in parts per trillion! Also, I know that scientists use different techniques to identify the different types and amounts of elements in a sample. They can also make pictures out of it. So, if I, for example, paint a black square over a white board, and then use one of the techniques, wouldn't I prove dark matter? Not yet...

There was another show, which I watched a long time ago. It was about the universe. I remember, a researcher was making a computer model of how the universe formed, but if he/she used all the relevant data and fed it into the computer, they would get a universe model that was far smaller than today's universe. They concluded that the missing elements/particles/mass has to come from 'dark matter', which we can't see/ measure yet (I think).

So, this is how I would prove dark matter:
1) I paint a black square, over and over, on a white background, and then calculate the mass of the painted board.
2) I will then scan the square and find the mass of the detectable atoms n the black square.
3) I will then weigh the board with a standard weighing scale and record any differences
4) if the two masses are different, there is then a determined mass within the known mass; this might be dark matter
5) Lastly, I will make an image of the black square and see if there are any white grains on the image/ unknown shapes on it. This might also be able to indirectly show dark matter.

Remember, these are only ideas and they sound far fetched. See what you think,
Yours sincerely,
Slickscientist, 13

PS: I do know the difference between weight and mass, and I am not sure what techniques scientists currently use to prove the dark matter.

Complementary Medicine / Is there a natrual treatment for athlete’s foot?

Chemistry / Can reactions that use oxygen also use Nitrogen?
« on: 06/11/2020 01:11:49 »
Hi.
For example, when copper rusts, the reaction is 2Cu+49e4fe93c55ea5f2b7bf970512cbc408.gif→2CuO. The copper reacts with the oxygen in the atmosphere. Is it possible that the copper/any reaction with oxygen can react with the nitrogen in the air?

General Science / Addiction!?
« on: 03/11/2020 13:46:30 »
Hi everyone,
Recently, as part of our Personally Healthy lessons in school, we looked at what happens to your body if you eat the wrong things. We saw a picture detailing what happens to your body after you consume diet coke. The picture is in the article link below and the facts are very alarming. Tell me what you think and share more surprising addiction facts.

New Theories / My Ideas for New Scientific Theories-What do YOU Think?
« on: 27/10/2020 16:05:21 »
Introduction:
I have been recently been having ideas about the physics that occur in our bodies, and I have come up with a few theories. I have spoken to my science teacher, and she advised me to write to the naked scientists. I have had no reply from them yet, so I will post my theories on this forum.

At the moment, I am 13. I would like to develop my ideas into a scientific paper by the middle of next year when I will turn 14. I have submitted a get in-touch query to the scientists asking them if they could help me, in terms of supplying me with chances the validate my theory with research. I want to add more value to the scientific community so if anyone can get in touch with them or any other people who can help me, please let me know.
Yours sincerely,
Slickscientist,13.
(The ideas are in the attachment below, and it is free to download if you are a guest).
