Aww - they're not only kissing each other (and passing a 'love' token too), but holding 'hands' as well - how sweet.

Personally, I prefer champagne to tennis balls, but have you ever seen a dog drinking champagne  [:D]

Thank you very much, yes he was a yellow lab.
Super smart dog.  I bought a new couch and though I could keep him off of it for a while.  I came home the first day to hear him hopping off of it.  I took him over to the couch, "NO." When I came home the next day, he had pulled the cushions off onto the floor and was sitting there proudly and wagging his tail.  From then on that was his couch.

Allen - they are great photos. Your dad's dog looks like an overgrown version of Shiloh, our Staffie. Norman looks to have a bit of Mastiff in him too. Has he?

Out of all the fabulous dogs I've had, Earthquake is the best.

Shiloh is a pretty dog DOC! So is Earthquake! Reminds me of our old dog Andy Bear.. I was young but he looked like your Earthquake but was built a bit smaller, not so tall but nice cream colored short haired..No other colors though.. He was a mixed breed.. I am not sure what with... I will have to look for a picture... I think somewhere I have an ancient picture of him in black and white from when I was a kid.. he was standing with my Sister. I think he was part Chihuahua.. But taller slightly more muscular and not a big Yapper like most Chihuahua's!

However, that's also the pic that made me ask if he's part Mastiff. Slightly longer ears and he'd be a dead ringer for a Bully...

(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mastiff-dog-secrets.com%2Fbandog-mastiff.jpg&hash=5ea8eb68652c6ae482dcc85c6c26de93)

The Bandog Society says about them...

"The Bandog is designed to be a close quarter combat dog. It excels in realistic protection and can be a wonderful companion/family dog for experienced dog owners. They are quite trainable and easy to maintain. It is extremely devoted to its owner and eager to work"

That translates as...

"This dog will rip you to shreds, and will enjoy doing it"

The breed is a cross between the American Pitbull and the Neopolitan Mastiff, and was intended to be the ultimate guard dog.

His tongue is black, which makes me think he's Sha-Pei.  Also those ears of his are the craziest little ears I've ever seen on any dog.  When we first found him (actually he found us) I thought they were cropped. Nope they are just tiny, and move around his head like Yoda's ears do his.

He's the sweetest dog you'll ever meet.  Never seen a more dainty eater in my life.

Why are you being so nice about dogs? In private you have put them in the same category as children - loathsome creatures. That is all dogs but war dogs, the type you keep.

I like most dogs, except the small, yappy ankle-biters.

Nice dog.. Does  he chew socks? LOL How did he get the name?

Actually, his name was Mungo. Sock #2 used to steal socks from the radiator when he wasn't getting any attention...he discovered people chased/played with him when he did this. One day he swallowed a whole sock right in front of me, "that's the last I'll see of that" I thought. Not so, it turned up in my magic sock drawer, with its twin, a few days later all clean...how do you suppose that happened.

(Note to USA: Dobermans get to keep their ears in the UK)

Some here to Keep their ears.. I prefer not mutilating my pets!

Mungo is a great name.. what does it mean?

What a wonderful story behind sock #2 LOL..

I roomed with a grade school friend for a year when I was 18, she had a beautiful Dobbie she called Yukon!

He was incredibly smart and very protective of us.. very loyal Dogs..

He kept anyone who shouldn't be in the apartment out... Someone broke in once while we were attending a movie.. stole some jewelry and the only diamond I owned at the time a necklace my Mom had bought me for my 18th Birthday... Yukon chased this person right through a big glass window not receiving a single scratch.. until the Perp clubbed him with a baseball bat,but That was the last club,I can't say the same for the  for the perpetrator.. he got all cut up and the dog kept a hold of him half way up a six foot fence the person was bleeding everywhere.. Scared me to death...

It was the first time that our gentle baby had defended himself.. The guy dropped the bat when the dog nailed him after getting hit upside the head with the bat.. He only chased and growled till that point..

when caught turned out to be a 20 year old kid looking to make some money for drugs....

The dog remained totally friendly but was still very protective after that...

My friend had her dog a very friendly and lovely natured staff and bull mastif cross taken away by the police about a month ago because they think it looks like a pitbull. They say its pitball like and therefore if she was to get it back it will have to be  neutered and licenced first.

That sort of thing is beyond a joke. Pitbulls are no more dangerous than any other powerful dog. A dangerous pitbull is the result of the owner raising it that way.

The Dangerous Dogs Act is a farce & a travesty. It was a knee-jerk reaction to a couple of incidents where people had pitbulls for the wrong reasons. I blame the breeders & suppliers.No-one - and I mean NO-ONE - should be allowed to have a large, powerful dog unless they can prove they know how to handle it properly. If a breeder lets someone who is unsuitable have that sort of dog, then they should be prosecuted as well as the owner. Unscrupulous breeder + bad owner + pitbull or any other large dog = trouble. Snuff out the problem at source and don't let dangerous dogs happen in the first place.

Pitbulls are no different to any other dog. In the hands of a good owner, they are a warm, friendly, affectionate, loyal dog. The vast majority that I've known - and I've known quite a few - have been great dogs.

When I was working in conjunction with the RSPCA, fostering large aggressive dogs, I only saw a couple of pitbulls that were a bit dodgy. Most were Rotties & German Shepherds, and quite a few mongrels. I even had to take on a couple of Labradors! Does anyone talk about banning them? Or what about Jack Russells? They can be very aggressive. OK, they're small - but they can still do a baby a lot of damage or even kill it.

I have never seen the logic behind the persecution of 1 particular breed when there are other breeds that can be just as dangerous. What about Akitas? They can be extremely neurotic & schizoid. If any dog can turn for no apparent reason, it's the Akita. Has anyone suggested they be banned? They're just as popular as pitbulls and have attacked just as many people. Plus they're bigger & stronger. I'd rather take on a pitbull than an Akita any day.

Or how about Malamutes? They are the nearest thing to a wolf you can get!

Oooh, I can feel my blood starting to boil. Time for my medication methinks.

That was pretty hard... and although she was our second dog (I crew up with a wonderful Spaniel), not our first dog but she was this very special pet you will never forget and that means the world for you.

I agree TOTALLY with the Good Doctor. I have had bull terriers before and they are wonderful animals.

Wikipedia says this:

Temperament

Bull Terriers are friendly dogs with a wonderful sense of humour, even having a "clownish" attitude about them, though they are not ideal for a first-time dog owner. Their physical strength is matched by their intelligence, and both body and mind need to be kept active. They can be fun and playful(if propley trained). They are very affectionate dogs that love human company. Bull Terriers are particularly good with children, and usually have a high pain threshold, which reduces the risk of injury from a defensive bite. Younger dogs, however, may regard children as playmates and because of their strength could cause inadvertent injury. They are protective of children in their charge. Bull Terriers make formidable guard dogs while their owners are away.

The American Temperament Test Society, Inc. (ATTS), a not-for-profit organization that promotes uniform temperament testing for dog breeds, gives the Bull Terrier a pass rate of 91.5%. The average for all breeds is 81.5%.

The bold-italics are mine.

Pit bulls or what ever you want to call them have had a raw deal.
They are only mean if one puts them in a pit and makes them fight for their lives.
I personally think such people should be trussed up in seal costumes and help save starving polar bears.

atrox,
Thanks for the kind words.  I'll be getting another soon.
You can see the wheels just a turning in Suri's head.
