Title: Hum instead of getting an Mp3 player would this work for my phone?
Post by: Simulated on 31/12/2007 15:46:25
Alright my cell phone is an Mp3 phone and well I think I should be able to use its Mp3 ablities instead of having to by and Mp3 player and having to carry them both around at the same time. Plus if I do get this card it'd be able to take pictures from my cell, ringtones, music, and all that fancy stuff to my computer right? That's what I see. Umk here's the product! (I should be able to get on cheaper then that I hopee cuz its of eBay lol.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-4GB-MICRO-SD-MEMORY-CARD-FOR-LG-VOYAGER-RUMOR-VENUS_W0QQitemZ280187783970QQihZ018QQcategoryZ118260QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and then here's my cell phone

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=3236

I've viewed everything and I'm purdy sure that it'd work. I just want to make sure before I go out and by it. So please help me make sure it should work.

Thanks! I don't think i'm forgetting anything..

Alright I"m getting more confused. This shows that there are two differnt types of MicroSD cards.

http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1117)-SanDisk_microSD_andmicroSDHCCards.aspx

I can't find anywhere which one of these my phone uses. It says up to 4 gb. Can anyone help sort out this confusion?

mine takes a mini SD 128 MB

I would go for this one it has more memory:They should all fit.. they are physically the same size but internally hold more stuff.

SanDisk microSD™ and microSDHC™ Cards
The smallest memory card in the world and the newest standard SD flash memory format specifically designed for ultra-small mobile phones.

Yes but Im still confused verizon only sells these..

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=accessoryMart&action=viewMusicAccessories&model=Capable%20Devices&make=Music%20Accessories%20and%20Memory%20Cards

And well none of them are like the ebay listing their the sd kind that only goes to 2 gb, the m2 one that goes to 4 as i see and the sdhc one that goes to eight. i'm really confused.

my phone says it take up to 4 gigs. yet the kind it says it takes only goes up to a 2 gb that i can find.

Idk i'm confused..

RYAN SD is what you need The added HC doesn't
t matter.. it means you get more storage then say a 4 mb card verses say an 8 megabyte card! Only gives you more storage space for your music!...

Ryan, if you really are not sure and don't want to risk your money on dodgy advice given on the net, then this is a fool proof way for you.

go to a major chain store (radio shack), ask if they do cash refunds, if they answer yes then buy the SDHC card and try it. if it works but you can buy it from ebay cheaper, you take the card back to the shop and ask for your money back...it was an unwanted gift, or some such white lie.

this is also the same thing women do with a new outfit, buy it on Friday, wear it to impress, and exchange or refund on the Saturday...

Alright a question regarding this product.

I'll have the USB port of it. And my dvd player has the usb port you can plugg the mps players into. Would that work? OR would I have to get the usb part for my phone.

Post by: techmind on 09/01/2008 10:33:50
Regarding a convertor as shown on eBay.

I would not recommend one of these "plug" adapters for a portable gadget.
(your first ebay example, or http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1144&doy=13m6 )

Together with the earphone plug, they will mechanically hang out a long way from your phone/MP3 player and risks getting knocked and ripping the socket off the circuit board inside the player.

Using an adapter is fine, but you'd be much better off getting one which has a 2.5mm plug and a 3.5mm socket separated by a few inches of flexible cable.
This looks like a "premium" (expensive) product, but is the kind of thing I had in mind: http://www.infinitecables.com/pop/av_25m-35f.htm
A lower priced product from a UK distributer is:
http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/168056/art/hama/cable-adapter-2-5-mm-plug.html
or in the US
http://mytreo.net/store/product.php?xProd=94
- both found using a Google search for 2.5mm 3.5mm cable

Even a right-angle adapter would probably be mechanically safer than a standard one, something like this:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=218492&&source=14&doy=9m1

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was suggesting that you hum melodies to yourself instead of getting an mp3 player!

(In case the title gets changed, in which case I will look like a loony, the title at the time of writing was "Hum instead of getting an Mp3 player would this work for my phone?")

Post by: Simulated on 09/01/2008 20:32:09
Lol. Yeah it ain't that BenV.

And yes That's exactly what dad said thanks techmind
Title: Hum instead of getting an Mp3 player would this work for my phone?
Post by: Simulated on 17/01/2008 21:17:06
Alright I got all my A's and B's. I've got 55 dollars in my room and I should be getting 20 from dad and then I asked my sister to chip in 20 also. So i'll have 95 dollars to spend.

We will be going to the local verizon wireless store to see what we can get for the phone. This is what they have online.

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessoryPopup?item=accessoryMart&accessoryId=29498

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessoryPopup?item=accessoryMart&accessoryId=29475

Dad works for the post office and get a discount on anytthing and everything so those prices aren't accurate.

If we end up deciding that that's to expenive or something stupid like that I will be getting all of the stuff off of ebay.

Yay

I've done the Math!

Verizon Store: 79.99 (for the card) + 29.99 (for the cable, cd, and headphones) = 109.98

eBay 1: 14.99 + 4.50 (for the cable, cd, and headphones, yes its the same thing from verizon) + 29.99 + 9.99 (for the card) = 59.36

eBay 2: 14.99 + 4.50 (for the cable, cd, and headphones, yes its the same thing from verizon) + 39.99 + 2.99 (for the card and usb adaper, I don't really need this but its only a little more for conveience [:)]) = 64.47

Keep in mind that the verizon one will be cheaper cuz of dad's discount. We aren't sure how big the discount is so we will go to verizon and see on Monday.

Sorry I keep posting on top of myself I'm just so phyced!
Title: Hum instead of getting an Mp3 player would this work for my phone?
Post by: paul.fr on 20/01/2008 01:12:49
here are my maths:

1. from the store $109.98, in your hand walk away with the goods
2. buy off ebay $59.36 to $64.47, goods may or may not turn up....
3. goods don't arrive from ebay, now they have cost roughly $180

just beware with ebay is the message.

Post by: Simulated on 20/01/2008 01:18:07
That's true Paul, but my dad's been buying stuff off of ebay for 3 years now an everything has came just as planned. But that's very true.

I guess we will wait until Monday to find out. I would be willing to pay another 14 bucks (dad says he think he remembers hearing when he got the phone that for a normal person it'd be 120 dollars, but dad can get it for 80. if so i'd be willing to pay that little more (with my sisters money haha) so if he don't let us get it on monday and we get it off ebay and it don't work i'm gonna be on his case)

Thanks Paul

The total at verizon for everything was

59.99 + 22.49 = 82.48

I guess we decided that eBay is the better route. I should be purchasing them tonight because the auctions are buy-it-now's.

Hopefullfy it all works out rightt

eBay totals are

21.98 + 42.98 = 64.96

I have the Shell that you plugg the microSD card into a miniSD card that plugges into the shell. the shell has a usb thing on the end. so i plugged it into the compuer and the dvd players usb drives and it reads it, but the cell phone don't.

Yes there is a way you can just make the phone do just music, but it don't affect it either way it just don't let no one call, well tell you that anyones calling.

and i'll try this..

instead of having an Ac-Dc folder and Kelly Clarkson folder, i'll just put the file in there.

it's taking alot longer to sync right now though..not sure why
