Ok, so you're in school and you bend your plastic ruler.... too far. It's turned white at the point that suffers maximum stress. Why ?

I don't honestly see any problem with asking people for advice on here. I had already outlined my reasoning and what I thought to be the answer. If someone else has the foresight to sign up to this forum and join the discussion then good for them. Not asking for help is like trying to pass your driving test without having lessons first.... very foolish.

Because of these lone pairs, which will repel each other the most, I assume the structure will be square planar ? With the lone pairs at each end of what would be an octahedron yeah ?

Could someone clarify this for me.
The negative ion [IF3Cl]-
Am I right in thinking that this would have 2 lone pairs and a single bond between each F & Cl atom ? Wouldn't this give it 12 outer electrons though ? I assume this doesn't follow the 'octet' rule yeah ?

I read an interview in men's health magazine that said exactly that. This guy said that he never ever ate anything before exercising because the body burns it's fat instead of the energy released from the food in his stomach. So I say it's true !

Ok then, I was tad tipsy the other night and tried a cocktail called a brain haemorrhage. As far as I can remember it had Bailey's, Grenadine and something else in it. Anyway, the Bailey's curdles in the glass when mixed with other spirits! So does anyone know what all that's about ?

I have a friend who swears by viagra regardless of whether he needs it or not. Now the thing he told me which surprised me, was that you don't get an erection unless you think about one! I was always under the impression that it happened whether you liked it or not. So rather than increasing blood flow to a certain nether region, does Viagra also have psychological effects too ?

This is going to virtually impossible to describe, but I occasionally smell something similar to that fresh smell down at the seaside. The weird thing is it almost has a 'feeling' to it as well. Like the strange static build up you can almost sense before a really big thunderstorm. I'm sure someone once told me it was something to do with ozone but maybe I'm just making that up / Anyway, the smell only ever seems to be present at two times, dawn and dusk. Even then I think I've smelt it about 3 times in the past year. Am I going mental ? []

How much faster does a ball leave the foot when it's kicked? With the ball being under pressure it will spring off the boot faster than the speed of the foot. But how much faster ?

I would have guessed it was to do with the moisture levels in a fridge. The bacteria will grow much quicker if it's got some water to live off and fridges are quite damp places. However leaving your bread on the counter, where it's relatively dry, you'll see it go stale but not mouldy for quite a while.
Now you should try soaking the bread with water then putting it in the airing cupboard for a fortnight. See how quick the mould grows then ! [8D]
