General Science / Can an electron travel a bit in a copper wire for inertia?

Hi. An electron is traveling through a copper wire, talking about electric circuit, let's say low voltage (though not necessarily low voltage). But, say 1 cm directly ahead you cut the wire with scissors. Will the electron freeze in place right away? Is it possible for the electron to continue traveling 1 cm for inertia or some other reason, if certain conditions are met? So, is it at all possible for the electron to somehow continue moving for a little while or longer if the wire is cut (or there's blackout or whatever) and if you were to apply something other than electricity? Thanks.
