Canadian researchers have developed a new method for generating stem cells from adult human tissue, a move they believe will bring the dream of personalized regenerative medicine a step closer to reality.

In a study published online Sunday in the journal Nature, scientists at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto describe a new reprogramming procedure to transform adult cells - such as those from a patch of skin - into stem cells.

Previous research in this area ran into problems because there was evidence that the cells could have become cancerous. The Canadian researchers have overcome this problem.

I have always been in 2 minds about the use of embryos but hopefully this will negate the need for using them and end the debate.

Good news - but there's been alot more of a fuss about the source than application.  Politics drove claims that were pure hyperbole.
