Can you use a smart TV with an Ethernet in Port as a monitor?
« on: 27/07/2016 19:23:02 »
Todd D Clark asked the Naked Scientists:
Hi. I work in a bowling center and we want to put up flat screens for our scoring system. Our system uses ethernet cable from scoring to a video distribution box. Can I use a smart TV with a Ethernet in Port as a monitor?  I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks Todd.
What do you think?

If you are wondering whether the LAN (Internet) port can be used to send in a video stream, the answer is no, not directly; that port is not wired to received video / monitor inputs, it is a data port. Unless you stream video to the screen, as per Youtube or similar...

Jim - if he was using HDMI then he wouldn't need to send a signal via the LAN port...
