For the last 50 or so years it has been possible for enthusiasts to receive weather pictures from polar orbiting satellites made very easy by the development of home computers and readily available receivers and antennas .
for the last 10 years pictures were often spoiled by pager transmissions but these have now more or less dyed out with the deployment of cell phones.
It would seem that we were having all good but unfortunately as the current generation of VHF transmitting satellites come to the end of their life they are being replaced by higher frequency versions that require tracking antennas and more complex receivers.
I notice this morning that NOAA19 is having scanner problems (this being the best received one in my area) leaving NOAA15 the only completely serviceable one launched in 1998!
