During a nightmare your body muscles which are under your control (except for eyeball muscles) such as legs, speech, arms, etc are paralyzed--ie you can't run downstairs!! What she had was called a "night terror"--similar to what others do when sleep walking. The person is asleep, may occasionally wake up spontaneously, but until that time has no idea what is going on--night terrors are really most frightening for the observer vs the patient. To learn more about sleep issues pick up a copy of "Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems".

Hi Jackscott. Your post looks like an advert for a book to me. Although for a penny on amazon plus £2.75 postage its not going to break the bank.
Just in case I happen to be wrong, this other discussion might be of interest to you: http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=2044.0

Hi there,
Wondering if there's a scientific explanation on not able to sleep only after taking flight to a different place/country/location...Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

You would think the troll would at least change it so it makes some sort of sense.

Did the OP refer to sleep paralysis?
