Is there any program to see universe from different points in the universe?
« on: 12/11/2013 12:14:53 »
I am interested if there is any program or way how to see universe, stars our galaxy, from different point of view then just earth. Lets say some other distant planet of some distant solar system in our galaxy (in the borders of what we have discovered).

I think you can do that with data and programs provided by SDSS. You'll need a fairly powerful computer because the computation is not done by their computer.

...  some other distant planet of some distant solar system in our galaxy (in the borders of what we have discovered).

Only "artist's impressions" of exoplanets, no actual photos.

As far as the Milky Way, it can be represented as a band of stars across the sky

In this case, as a panorama composite, as viewed from Earth.

Or, as a spiral, as it might be viewed from a distant galaxy such as Andromeda.

JPL has an online solar system simulator. You choose what object to look at, where to view it from, how wide you want the field of view, and the time and date. It includes the sun, moon, planets, their moons, some asteroids and comets, and many artificial satellites.

I hear Space Engine is pretty good. Haven't tried it yet though.
