Title: Healthy Eating or Dodgy Science?
Post by: alancalverd on 10/02/2019 17:27:47
Just copied this from an apparently authoritative on-line source

Quote
Gouda cheese has 819 mg of sodium per gram, and American cheese has 1,671 mg of sodium per gram. That’s a lot! Next time, make sure to cut down on the amount. It’s not bad if you cut it out completely, but this would be a sad day indeed.

Interesting. Does American cheese contain antimatter?

Equally usefully, can we use American cheese as a source of antigravity?
- Since Americans units measure weight, not mass...

In Australia, food labels measure content:
- per "serving" (a somewhat arbitrary measure)
- per 100g of food (as a standardised measure, which would imply both cheeses contain about 1% sodium in salt)

About 1 g of sodium per 100 g of cheese sounds about right to me.

For those who are limiting their sodium intake, hard cheeses are probably best to avoid (American "cheese" should always be avoided)

@chiralSPO is right - they've missed a critical "100" before the "g". Quite funny - when I first read it my brain filled in the gap and I couldn't work out what you were all going on about. Then, when I re-read it I realised why @Bored chemist was going on about anti-matter! You guys have a good eye for the details!
