Well every one knows when you put a mentose in a can of diet pop it fizzels up, well what would happen if you put a mentose in your mouth and then drank diet pop?
-
I suspect you would do a good impression of a rabid man foaming at the mouth !...or that scene in Monty Pythons 'The Meaning Of Life ' when that fat bloke literally spews a volcano !!..accompanied by loads of burps...
..not too sure if you'd do yourself any long term harm......lets wait for a passing ' Mentos In Mouth & Diet Pop ' expert to comment.

And what if you swallow an entire menthos candy and then you drink diet coke? It would be advisable not to have:
1.menthos candies
2.diet coke (or coke)
3.children
all at the same time.

That could be a very explosive situation...hehe

Is that true?

Try the experiment...buy some mentos, and some diet coke...drop them in the bottle (2 liter)..much more entertaining, but suggest you go outside as you will need room for the pop to fountain out! LOL

I played around with this with my students. We came up with various variables. My best guess as to what is happening is that there is something on the coating of the mentos that is reacting with the soda to release all of the carbon dioxide at once. I don't think much would happen in your mouth. Maybe it would feel a little extra fizzy. Part of what makes the soda 'explode' is the pressure in the 2 liter bottle because there is such a narrow opening. In your mouth, there wouldn't be much soda or pressure.

The mint reacts with about half the chemicals that make up the cola but to get the best reaction a 15 ft wall of cola it needs to be diet coke as its chemicals are much more reactive to the mint than standard stuff. But thats not the end of the story as you get two kinds of mints smooth and non smooth.
If you drop a smooth mint in very little will happen but if you drop a non smooth mint in the cola it will release all its carbon dioxide almost straight away as the non smooth mints are full of tiny pits, which act as tiny nucleation sites for the carbon dioxide bubbles to form, the carbon dioxide requires these sites for the mint to do its work quickly.
