Physiology & Medicine / Does receptor activation lead to an increase in mRNA expression of that receptor

My research project is about the effect of γ-Hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) on 5-HT2 (A and C) receptor mRNA expression, but I'm finding the whole thing confusing. First and foremost, once the 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors have been activated by subsequent agonists, would this lead to an increase in mRNA expression? Would the activation lead to the increase?
