General Science / Re: How does water pressure change with increasing temperature?
« on: 26/04/2011 14:25:11 »
Homework question?

New Theories / Does the future already exist?
« on: 26/04/2011 14:22:33 »
Indeed, it would imply every time a particle bounces off another and goes one way, it creates another universe, while in another universe the particle bounced the other way. Where does the energy come from to keep creating all these universes?

The Environment / "Another Hockey Stick Illusion"?

Too long, didn't read

For a while, the engine will actually fall at a contant velocity.  The incoming air still gets compressed.  But,there's no source of heat so the engine makes negative net thrust (or drag).  The acceleration due to gravity can match the deceleration due to aerodynamic drag.

What's gravity got to do with anything, the same could be said for any object at terminal velocity. I think what Geezer is saying is that it is the fuel that produces the thrust that produces the velocity that enables the compression of the air. No fuel, and your compression will just be drag.

Physiology & Medicine / Can you boost your immune system by eating off food?
« on: 14/04/2011 12:17:47 »
As I understand it the main danger from eating off food is not the bacteria but the toxins they produce, I suppose one could build up a tolerance for them. The better plan would be getting to the food pretty quickly after it's been thrown out I think.

New Theories / Does the future already exist?

I don't see why it is necessary to postulate that every possible future already exists, what does it explain or predict?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / How many sieverts of radiation would an average sunburn be?
« on: 14/04/2011 03:43:40 »
Yeah, how do explain sunburn then

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / How many sieverts of radiation would an average sunburn be?
« on: 11/04/2011 20:13:02 »
So we could figure out how much say, 2 hours worth of sunlight would be in sieverts?

Ah, so the sievert system has no weighting for uv?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / How many sieverts of radiation would an average sunburn be?

I'm going to refer to sunburns as radiation burns from now on, just since everybody seems to be terrified of the word radiation.

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / What is life? And is there life on other planets?

It depends where you set the bar. If there were such things as UFO's,

Of course there is, not every object that's ever flown has been identified.

Quote
the technology and knowledge they use would be so advanced (faster than light travel and all) that they would probably consider there was no life on this planet. From our perspective, atoms join in crystals and molecules which undergo processes and form patterns and, Bob's your uncle, we have life.

How do you think a race gains knowledge? Through science, through studying everything they can, like us. So a race with such technology would be in the habit of studying anything and everything they can, and Earth would be a pretty major field site of study.

Just Chat! / If I exist, then how would you prove my existence?

Yeah i think so, maybe that's what created the universe

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Is thorium-based power generation a safer alternative?

I know  [:)]
I wasn't, until I became aware of all the political/administrative problems in the management of dangerous/toxic plants and wastes.

Isn't that more of a problem of current and old plants though, and not future ones? Haven't we already made most of the waste we ever will?

Physiology & Medicine / Telepathy - Schizophrenia - God, mystery of my life?

General Science / How long could we live without the Sun?
« on: 09/04/2011 13:25:00 »
Quote from: GlentoranMark on 04/04/2011 19:45:52
I'd hazard a guess of only seconds unless we had a source of heat. Everything would simply freeze solid.

In addition to, as CliffordK points out, surviving the night without the sun, we would be able to survive at least the 8 minutes it takes for the light (and lack of light) to reach us from the sun.

So you're anti-nuclear power lightarrow? That's interesting

There are a million things to be worried about before you worry about that.

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Where did the big bang occur?
« on: 07/04/2011 13:01:32 »
Why would the milky way be half way from the center?

New Theories / Could we make solar panel flowers?
« on: 03/04/2011 15:22:24 »
Electricity is the movement of electrons, solar satellites would not beam electricty but microwaves.
