I have found hundreds of flint scrapers that could easily cut hair if you tried to. And since flint scrapers are the easiest thing to make I am sure they figured that out over 100,000 years ago.

So there are a couple sites that can be described as I asked. I expected there to be hundreds of examples at all stages of erosion. I still don't think they are as common as I think they should be. As a kid I visited literally hundreds  of rock outcrops with my Dad hunting arrowheads. The rocks above ground always carried more interest than the ones that are buried. I examined them and always tried to put them in their proper setting. Many things never made sense and most of them still don't.  Like the coal beds of WV. You get water sourced sand dunes. They abruptly turn to coal in a perfectly flat line with zero roots and zero topography.  Then the dunes return later, off another perfectly flat line and begin their thing for however long and rinse repeat at least 4 times. I fail to understand how that transition could possibly happen. I've been in many coal mines, the roof is always flat. No roots ever stick out above or below the coal seam. I would really love to understand how you can keep alternating like that. Where do the little valleys go? The hills? Why is the sand always empty?

Been looking for a mountain with it's cave network exposed due to erosion. If the slow erosion of everything is true then there should be several places where cave networks are exposed and open with no more cover. You know, with exposed flowstone and the like.

As I understand it there was a line of volcanic islands off the eastern coast of the US. A subduction zone had the islands approach the coast and collide with it. Then later another subduction zone approached with Africa behind it.  Africa collided with the continent and made the Appalachians. Later Africa pulled away and caused basins to form in the East of NC which quickly filled with sediment. When Africa pulled away a large section of the mountains stretched and collapsed forming the Blue Ridge and the Piedmont of NC. Since then erosion has washed away the land to the point where only the core of the once island volcano at Morrow Mtn NC is left. About 10 miles from there on Bus Rt 52 there is an outcrop of apparent basalt that has the shape of a cone In the way you'd expect from drawings of magma chambers that never made it to the surface.  What I can't seem to locate is the sutures where those two zones were.

I have seen several videos claiming that there were two subduction zones that make up the Carolina piedmont. What I cannot for the life of me find is just where they are. Does anyone know? Or is that merely a theory people have of how the piedmont formed and not supported by direct evidence?

It is mentioned on PBS Space Time every so often. If you can visualize a star collapsing into a black hole that singularity is akin to a hole in this dimension of space. The gravity a black hole has is a shadow of the mass on the other side of it. The words don't really match what I am trying to relate. Space and time reverse for basically the same reason an image in a pinhole camera is flipped. 

"Black holes do not repel things so they would not increase expansion they would tend to inhibit expansion."

In this universe. The expansion of our space time would be related to whatever matter was falling in to a black hole in another dimension. THE black hole that's creation was our "big bang". It still exists in whatever dimension it was formed in. And when it is eating matter that matter fuels our universe's expansion. We can deduce that our 14 billion years and near infinite space would  be a place of infinite time and very little space. Universes are like a froth of foam on an infinitely recursive plane.

Since it has been postulated that black holes form "universes" inside them that forces the question of what happens to things when they fall into the black hole. Logic says if such things exist (the universes) where space and time are reversed then any matter falling into the black hole could not retain any of it's information. Scale would not be compatible. One of our atoms might be as large as a planet in another universe. So my theory is that anything that falls into a black hole creates dark energy that would hasten the expansion of the universe it falls into. So what we observe in our universe is fueled by matter falling in the black hole that "owns" our universe. Anyone else see this as obvious? Or am I way off track? It seems pretty self evident to me. If it's wrong or impossible, how is it like that?

Say a small 2 to 3 mile wide asteroid impacted the Pacific ocean near Zealandia. Mostly Iron going around 50,000 mph. Would the impact be great enough to force the submerged continent to rise above sea level? If that wouldn't do it, would any impact increase the mantle pressure enough to force that continent back above the waves? I know it was thinned by stretching and that caused it to fall below the water. Is there even enough rock left to raise it the 300 to 400 ft it would need to be raised?

So I read that the atmosphere of Mars is equal to Earth's at 100,000 feet. If that is the case, why does Mars have a greyish, purplish sky? At 100,000 feet the sky is jet black on Earth. Why is there a difference? I can't seem to figure it out. Any help?

I was looking at Google Earth and noticed something strange. We see the mid ocean rift and the assorted "mountains" and hills it makes. What happens to them? Why aren't the edges of the oceans rough like the ridge if only the middle of the ridge grows? Why do sea mounts persist yet the texture of the ridge does not? Something seems off.

My entire life I've had tinnitus. I've never had one second of silence in my life. It just keeps getting worse. I'm in my early 50's and figure it'll be all I hear eventually. I'm also profoundly hard of hearing and the combination can be maddening. And the worst part? I've never met anyone suffering from the same things. What causes it? I was born with it. And no, there's no effective cure.  Either deal with it or evacuate your skull.

. It doesn't. Water and the other gases routinely escape our gravity. Back in the dinosaur days air pressure was twice what it is now. We've already lost more than half of our atmosphere. If you wait long enough we will wind up like Mars.

That is completely possible. There could be other explanations. I've seen beaches with millions of jellyfish on then. And I have seen lakes where they were very thick in the water. So thick that if something killed them around the same time they would become a thin layer of brown formless blobs cemented together. I'd love to hear some other explanations. So what else could reproduce the effect?

You can't make out any detail at all. Just shapwless blobs all bunched together. 
in SC I once found a rock that appeared to have brown things in it.  So I took it home and broke one of the brown things out of it and caught a hint of pine smell. So I put it over my lighter and it was definitely pine bark. A pine tree had fallen over and in doing so A lot of pieces of bark fell into the hole made by the tree. And then the mud turned to rock. No way to tell how long ago. Long enough to become hard solid rock.

Here on the piedmont of NC the only fossils around are jellyfish. They leave a formless blob for a fossil. Most times several blobs. Hard to tell what it is. But no bones. No bones at all.

Since that layer is preserved world wide the chances of finding a fossil of something covered by that layer should be pretty good. Since I wrote the question it has come to me. Acid rain. The rock blasted by the impact had a high sulfur content. That sulfur came back down as acid rain and that must have dissolved all the dead things that would have been either under or on top of that layer. Either that or the dinosaurs were already mostly gone before the impact. And that the very few that died off just over the layer were in small enough numbers that there just weren't anything left to fossilize. Am I getting warm?

World wide we have the layers made my the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs. But to the best of my knowledge they've never found a dinosaur fossil IN that layer. If that's what killed them all you'd suspect there would be millions of them everywhere.  Why aren't they?
