Physiology & Medicine / How do we combat the problem of smoking in the population?
« on: 30/08/2018 22:55:17 »
I'm interested in this problem because my father died from smoking. The pollution caused by cigarettes does not stop in our bodies or in the air; it also affects the land in which we live, and the water we drink. Every day millions of cigarette butts are thrown to the ground. They find themselves in rivers and lakes, where fish and animals eat them by mistake and quite often die from it. The rest is left on the ground to decompose, which will take an average of 25 years, while all chemicals and additives leach to the ground and pollute the soil and plants. It looks unattractive, this is a great fire hazard in dry weather, and it is extremely harmful to the environment.
Probably, the most influential aspect of cigarettes actually produces them. There is land used to grow crops around the world that could be better used by planting more trees or products for starving children in third world countries. These crops are also often sprayed with a large amount of harmful pesticides and chemicals, because tobacco is a very fragile plant and is likely to become ill. It also requires a lot of trees for the production and packaging of cigarettes. The production of cigarettes uses four miles of paper per hour only for rolling and packing cigarettes. One tree is wasted for every three hundred cigarettes. These trees can filter out pollutants already in the air, instead of hacking them to add new ones.
The tobacco industry is completely unwilling to use more advanced technologies to reduce the impact that they have on the environment, as every year it gets too many of its billions of dollars in profits. They often try to grow more trees, but because they use trees to dry the tobacco and for rolling and packaging, it probably does not concern the environment, but concerns the loss of wood sources that encourage them to do so. They do not care about the contamination of our bodies, so it is unlikely that they will think twice about pollution.
The only way to stop them from harming the environment is to stop buying their products. Quitting smoking is difficult, but it can be done, and it's not just that smokers harm their bodies, but also about the harm they cause on the ground, and the pain they cause their friends and families.
Your opinion on how to stop this crazy

Complementary Medicine / Get healthier - get happier!
« on: 25/08/2018 19:57:24 »
Do you remember how you felt the last time you got sick? Sure, getting some days off of school or work is appealing but not when you’re home in pain, taking medicine that tastes awful and not being able to go anywhere to have fun!

How happy did you feel? Not very right? Ok, so I know that a lot of you feel so much happier when you eat foods that you love (like all those junk foods!), and you enjoy going out with friends till mid-morning, enjoying drinks, inhaling other people’s smoke and ‘having fun!’ You also probably prefer laying around in bed or on the couch watching TV all day eating chips and eating soda, rather than getting up and getting some exercise, right?

Well, all you need to do now is to decide which life you prefer. Yes, it's true, the junk food loving, partying, no exercising lifestyle does lead to sickness and sometimes premature death! Don’t be frightened. Even though what I am saying is true, you can make just a few simple changes and have a much better outlook.

It’s called balance! Even though you may feel young mentally and emotionally now, one day you might still be young, but in an old body. Poor eating habits or improper food choices, can cause premature aging starting with your cells, leading to premature death.

So, how about exchanging some of those unhealthy food choices with some of the more healthy ones that you keep hearing about? Fruit and cereal for breakfast doesn’t sound too bad, does it? Or how about a salad or chili as a side dish instead of fries? How about popcorn with light butter instead of the extra butter you often choose at the movies?

Physiology & Medicine / What is your opinion about surrogate motherhood?
« on: 25/08/2018 13:42:45 »
When individuals or couples can not naturally bear children, they have several other alternatives at the beginning of the family. Of course, although adoption is one option, many want to see the child through conception, pregnancy, birth and upbringing. For some, there is also the problem of having a real biological connection with this child.
Often these people choose the process of surrogate motherhood in order to achieve their goal of having a child. In this situation, a third person, called the surrogate mother, will carry the embryo throughout the pregnancy, rejecting the child to his prospective parents at birth.
Using a surrogate mother to give birth to children for couples who are unable to conceive for themselves is a process that is thousands of years old. This is proved in the writings of the Bible in the story of Abraham and his wife Sarah, who was barren.
Although the Bible does not specifically prohibit the very process of surrogate motherhood, it raises the question of whether it is moral and / or ethical, if it is considered moral, regarding the content of children conceived for love and born only of two persons who are married couple .
In addition to the numerous problems that surround the surrogate to help with the conception of the child and the birth, there is also an ethical and moral question that some groups have with those who actually act as a surrogate mother.
Some believe that the use of a surrogate mother to assist with the birth of a child is a privilege that is reserved only for the rich, since the cost can be prohibitive for the majority. However, there are many surrogate motherhood clinics that offer payment plans - and even reimbursements for unsuccessful pregnancy attempts - so the process can soon become much more popular.
Although, of course, moral issues are important for following and observing, it is difficult to judge anyone if they do not "pass a mile in the shoes of another person." In this case, many believe that infertility is a medical condition - and while someone does not actually face reality, when he can not have a child, it is difficult to understand how truly this situation is destructive.

Physiology & Medicine / Is it true that irrigation of the colon "has never been clinically useful"?
« on: 25/08/2018 12:48:08 »
Are you sure that the rectum gives you energy and can improve headaches, allergies and acne? Colon therapy is encouraged by celebrity endorsements and their websites. Gwyneth Paltrow argues that "for the uninitiated large intestine this is, in fact, the method of moisturizing and irrigation of your colon - part of your intestine, which is about five feet in length."
The Association of Registered Colon Hydrotherapists offers a career path - 11 days of training, and you can practice. Purification of the intestine has existed since ancient times, but this does not make it effective. Can large volumes of warm water (up to 60 liters) pump up your rectum, really cleanse toxins and any muck, lining of the intestine and make you feel great?
that the digestive system knows how to eliminate waste and toxins. It seems to me that there is no evidence that toxins accumulate on the walls of the intestine, not to mention the fact that it was caused by "poor removal of waste from the colon."
I read reports of cases of column hydrotherapy, causing abscesses of the pelvis, pushing air into the veins in the intestine and the appearance of gangrene around the anus and the imbalance of electrolytes from all this fluid. According to this study, studies to show this are not useful, but certainly are a sign of harm and even the fact that people have died from it.

Physiology & Medicine / Honey against sugar: which sweetener should I use?
« on: 24/08/2018 09:22:25 »
When you make a cup of hot tea, do you reach honey or sugar? Although both can add sweetness to your drink, their nutritional benefits are different.
Honey and sugar are carbohydrates, consisting mainly of glucose and fructose. They are used as ingredients in many finished products and recipes. Both can lead to weight gain when used excessively.
The reputation of honey in order to be more healthy can have some basis, but honey is not considered healthy food. So it's healthier?
Sugar consists of a combination of glucose and fructose, which combine with the formation of sucrose. It does not add vitamins or nutrients.
Of the most diverse types of sugar, white, brown and raw sugar are the most common.
Brown sugar is a combination of white sugar and molasses and can contain several nutrients. It is used mainly for baking.
Raw sugar is a less refined version of white sugar. It is light brown in color and contains larger crystals. Raw sugar does not change from white sugar.
What are the benefits of sugar?
Are there any drawbacks in sugar?
