'Injuries Are Horrific'

A baby girl has suffered serious burns after being put inside a clothes dryer.
The 13-month-old girl's mum had left the tot in the care of her boyfriend while she went to the gym.
But when the baby spilled a drink on herself, he allegedly put the child inside the tumble dryer and switched the power on.
When the mother returned to her home in Perth, Western Australia, she took her daughter to hospital and the police were alerted.
Officers said the child suffered serious burns to both feet and her left hand, as well as bruising to her face and back.
She was being treated in a Perth hospital and was expected to make a full recovery, they said.
"The injuries are horrific and in my years of being a police officer I have not seen or heard of this type of injury before," Detective Deb Newman said.
A police spokesman said a 21-year-old man appeared in court on charges of causing bodily harm and was released on bail.http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1223142,00.html

thats what we call an uneducated try at helping someone out.
I had a friend who told me that she had a parrot who got wet. Worried that the parrot was cold, she put him in the microwave to warm him up. the parrot survived the microwave, but died of shock shortly after.
be sure you know what your doing when you try to help sombody!

I can't understand these people....It's horrendous !...and they have the right to bring children into the world and vote too !!
What ever happened to common sense ?....it really scares me that there are people like this who microwave pets and tumbledry tots !!

Who are you talking about – the mother or the boyfriend? Did the boyfriend bring anyone into this world? (can't say much for his right to vote, although if he is sent to prison, he will clearly be denied that right while he is in prison).

What kind of parent leaves their child in the care of someone like that! Number one if this was her boyfriend she must have known what kind of mentality this person had. In this day and age That is just sick! The little child is lucky to be alive at all!
A couple months ago I saw a re-enactment of a emergency situation where the small child was helping mom load clothes into a washer when the phone rang. The mother went in the next room to answer came back and child had reached in to drop clothes in or leaned over and had fallen head first into filled washer and the machine was aggitating. Child was trapped and drowned. So frightening to think about how fast you can loose a child even in an accident if you are not watching closely enough!
21 years old, come on..... Any 4 year old knows that the dryer is for clothing not infants! Was this 21 year old mentally challenged?
Why did they let him go for petes sake?

Ofcourse, 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing thing.
There are too many facts I don't know to make such judgements. It is difficult to know how someone will react in a situation until you have actually observed them in that situation. Quite possibly the boyfriend had always behaved impeccably so long as he did not have sole responsibility for the child, and he could defer all responsibility to the mother. How can she judge how he will take on responsibility until he is actually put in that situation.
Ofcourse one is taking risks with the child's life, but how can you bring up children without sometimes exposing them to danger? Would the child really grow up a balanced and normal child if she has never spent a minute of her life out of her mother's presence, or never been in any risky situation. One hopes that 99.9% of these risk situations will simply be part of growing up, but every once in a while things go wrong. Is there any other way?
It may be that this was a foreseeable situation that should never have been allowed to arise, but I wasn't there, so from here I cannot really judge.

You know another someone, You are of course right about holding off from judgement, We do not know the circumstances, but from many many years of experience I know I never ever would put my child in that kind of situation without knowing full well that the person I left my child with was totally competent and that there would never have been a chance to do my child harm! I watched my children like a hawk and at that age they never even had a sitter although I know that people have to do this in these times as different financial situations put parents in different situations. Our children went with us everywhere until they were over 5 years old.
Your still right, but the kind of risks we expose our children to needs to not put their very lives at stake! Yes, Children need to take some risks and explore new things and become independent, but they have to have some perameters to protect them from real harm. We need to provide a safe nurturing enviornment for them to push the limits and explore outside of the box, but we also need to ensure their safety. So when they do try and fall they may be a bit bumped, but they are not afraid to try again! An 18 month old is too young to have to be exposed to that kind of risk. Trying to climb stairs or those risk types yes indeed need to be allowed, but risking who you leave in charge of said child without knowing them as well as your own child, I don't think so. That being said, I don't know all the facts either and I could not decide here either, but I know I would not allow that kind of a risk. I was a child who was abused in a situation in my own home by my stepfather, and I have made darn sure there have never been opportunities for this kind of thing to ever repeat it self in my house ever again. My children have grown up protected from that and they share the same knowledge to pass to their children and they will.
There are ways to protect your child without smothering them and removing all risks of them experienceing life. It should not be something to leave up for chance.

Sometimes I hate news feeds, there is never enough attention to the relly important details. Makes it hard to tell what the whole story is in the first place. I went to the link trying to find out more, but alas nothing more then what was posted here! Well I sure hope the right thing is done in the long run anyway!
