That really is a shame, Health and Safety interfering with science. I will have to inform BC about this as I was arguing with him about how H&S was making life difficult, no lead in solder, etc. Could we not fire a black candle at a white board?? (joking, of course). I don't own a shotgun or any type of gun, so it is all hypothetical.

If the mass of the charge carrier was a parameter in calculating the force due to a magnetic field it would have shown up long ago in countless experiments.

It wouldn't be much good for analgesic research. A major genetic variation like this might have unexpected changes in other areas of the animal's biochemistry, possibly invalidating any research. With receptor modelling the need for animal research will decline, hopefully.

I would not have thought paraffin wax would be strong enough for this job. I have definitely heard of this, many many years ago, but I thought something more resilient than paraffin wax was used- to be honest I can't remember.

Watching the recent events in Syria with the reckless firing of weapons into the air, I wonder where these projectiles return to the ground and with what energy. The path will be roughly parabolic and in the absence of air the return energy will match that of dispatch. Air resistance will result in significant loss of energy, still I would not want to be on the receiving end. Any ideas on how dangerous these returning projectiles will be?

Occasionally when replying the forum software will say a title is required before this action can be carried out. This has happened several times and when I add a title the reply is posted correctly. I have found that whatever title I use is not critical, ie it does not have to match exactly what the OP has used and I used what I thought Hamdani had used. Weird. PS: thanks, Halc.

As airborne charge can easily build up on isolated conductive material, a vacuum chamber would be needed with Teflon stands. Water will be a problem with a vacuum and the two containers will need to be sealed. There may be other possible sources of "contamination" but that's all I can think of at the moment.

On insulated conductive materials stray voltages of similar magnitude often arise and determining  their origin could be difficult but it is almost certainly some environmental artefact.

I would argue that all em is quantised but I have zero proof. A thought experiment: set up a standard black body radiator, ie small aperture in a spherical matt black furnace, and use the radiation to illuminate a photoelectric cell. As we increase the furnace temperature we see a smooth increase in frequency of the emitted radiation exactly the same as one would see if the frequency of a radio transmitter was swept up or down. The photocell however will only react when a specific frequency is reached, indicating quantisation. It may be the case that we simply do not have a suitable phenomenon to detect the quantisation of lower em frequencies, akin to the photoelectric cell for the higher frequencies.

I was of the opinion that this question was comprehensively answered at an early stage in this query. Surely 1/√1-vsq/csq is all one needs to answer this without digressing into ever more complicated reasoning.
