Title: How does your toilet flush
Post by: Vern on 22/01/2009 14:02:19
This was suggested to test physics of the spinning earth. Does it really control the way your toilet spins when you flush?

Please don't "dry lab" the test. You must actually do it! And please actually be truthful [:)] Otherwise this test might not be scientific  [::)]

I don't know whether the little holes around the rim of the bowl are designed to make the flush spin a certain way; they probably could be; one would think the designer would probably not consider that.

My  head spins, sometimes, when I'm on the toilet.
Is that irrelevant?
Indian or African?

Ok; I just returned from a relieving visit and voted. Remember that you have to click the Submit button under the poll to make your vote count.

Me too; I don't understaind the Indian or African question; is that reference to the kind of toilet [;)]

I play a card and you go and trump it.

This effect only works with large things like tornadoes. You can get the water to go either way depending on prior agitation. If you go to villages near the equator they will do the test with a special bowl to show that if you cross the equator the water spins the opposite way. But some of these villages that do the demonstration are 20 miles from the equator but pretend they are on it to draw in the tourists. They fix the test. The whole plug hole thing is a big fat myth. Sorry!

Are you sure you didn't dry lab the test because you're already sure of the outcome. [:)]

Edit: Drylab means to report the outcome of an experiment without actually doing it.

I do science shows so I don't like to spout stuff I haven't done wet lab. I demonstrate the fact with a tornado in a bottle which is two 1 litre bottles connected at the neck by a tube.

If you had done the test your toilet would remember the way it last spun and spin that way again if you repeated the test at close enough intervals. [:)] And the time was too short.

I have 5 toilets in my house and they spin different ways. Three spin mainly clockwise and two spin mainly anti-clockwise and no the equator doesn't run through my house.

My toilet doesn't spin, but that's probably because of the shape.
